The water inlet valve (Refrigerator Water Inlet Valve Kit) provides water for the ice maker and water dispenser. This part is located at the back of the refrigerator, and connects to the water supply. If your water inlet valve is malfunctioning, you could be getting a lack of water to the inside of your refrigerator. Your ice maker may not produce cubes or your water dispenser may not work. This breakage can occur from material fatigue or normal use, and is a sign the part should be replaced soon. The water inlet valve must be replaced if the solenoids no longer have continuity or the valve has internal blockage. was not making ice
take out ice bucket, just loosen the top 2 screws, remove the bottom screw, slide ice maker up & out, srewdriver to release wiring harness clip, reverse to put back in. was very simple. did not install water inlet kit yet. water under fridge stopped after i changed the ice maker.

The in-door water dispenser stopped working but the ice continued to work.
I first had to identify the faulty part. I ohms checked the micro switch in the door. It was fine. I traced the wiring to the inlet valve at the bottom of the rear of the unit. inlet valve. I found the correct part here on PartSelect and ordered it. When the part arrived I changed out inlet valves by turning off the water supply, unplugging the refrigerator, removing the two inlet valve mounting screws, and disconnecting the wire terminals. The inlet water line was a 1/2" compression nut and the water and ice outlets were hand turn compression nuts. I reversed the removal steps to install the new valve, turned the water on, checked for leaks, plugged in the refrigerator, and the new valve worked perfectly. The feeling of accomplishing a DIY project was only topped by a happy wife who really didn't want to spend the money on a new fridge!

The ice maker had been slowly dying and one day just stopped making ice. No water was getting to the trays.
I read that this could be caused by a failure of the valve, even though the continuity test indicated that the solenoid was okay.

I pulled the fridge away from the wall.
I unplugged the fridge. I closed the water supply valve.
I unscrewed the two mounting screws using a flat head screwdriver.
I pulled the old valve out from refrigerator.
Using an adjustable wrench I detached the water supply from the valve. I detached the hose leading to the ice maker from the valve.
I pulled the electrical connectors from the connectors on the valve.
I attached the hoses to the new valve, attached the electrical connector, screwed the new valve in its place, opened the water supply, plugged the fridge back in, checked for leaks, and waited for a few hours.
My ice maker is working better than it has in at least two years.

Ice Maker Fill Tube Freezes Up
After a bit of troubleshooting it became obvious that the fill tube was freezing shut because the dispenser valve was not fully closing between fills. the valve which was conveniently located on the back of the refrigerator in the lower right corner (where you attached the water inlet line from the house). After unplugging the refrigerator and shutting off the water outlet valve (in the wall), a small crescent wrench easily removed the inlet water line from the valve on the refrigerator. I then had to remove about five or six screws which held the black (cardboard like) flap which covered the valve. This cardboard is part of the overall cover that encompasses the entire back of the refrigerator. Two sheet metal screws (which held the valve to the refigerator frame) were then removed and the valve was easily pulled from the frame about three inches. At that point four electical (plug like) connections (they're grouped in twos) were easily pulled off, and the two water lines which feed the ice maker and the drinking water dispenser were easily removed using a pair of pliers (and fingers). To install the new unit, the aforementioned process was reversed and the unit has worked (and fixed the problem) perfectly! The only problem I encountered was that I had a small leak where you attach the water line from the wall to the new valve. This was fixed with some plumbers tape.
