Refrigerator & Freezer both stopped cooling
Simply move the appliance for access to the back side. Removed the lower metal access panel, locate the compressor ( black round object ) parts are on the left bottom of the compressor. Simply unplug the parts, and replace with new parts. The hard part was, getting my 72 year old body in position to do the job. As far as getting the right part, a young lady in Nova Scoita is the one to ask for help !! Ordered parts one day, and they were in my hands the next morning!!
This includes both the run capacitor and the start relay. The capacitor helps the compressor kick on and off while maintaining a constant temperature to keep things frozen in your freezer. The start relay boosts the compressor, and then shuts off as soon as the motor gets up to speed and the overload provides extra protection against excessive temperatures.

The compressor would not run.
I removed the screws in the lower back panel where the compressor is located. Then I unplugged the capacitor and plugged the new one in. I then checked to see if the compressor would start. It wouldn't so I replaced the overload relay with capacitor and that fixed the problem. The capacitor just plugs into the relay then plugs into the compressor. There are several screws but all in all it is easy.

My Whirlpool Fridge and freezer would not get cold.
My Whirlpool model (GB2FHDXWS09) Fridge and freezer would not get cold. The compressor would turn on for about 5 seconds and turn off. I called parts Direct and they knew it was the Capacitor right away. I also ordered the Start Relay just to replace it as well, that was my choice.

Received the parts super fast. I chose to pay for faster shipping.

Super great place to shop, watch help videos and get the answers you need for what you need. Super happy with everything about this company and the person that helped me on the phone to place the order and confirm I was ordering the right part.

Done and working. Took me about 5 minutes. Everything is plug and play besides taking a few screws off the back.

Thanks Team !

Bryce

Our Refrigerator and freezer stopped working
I had read on a fix it site that the start device for the compressor on this particular model was known to fail after 3-5 years. When we received the part it looked like something that just plugged into the compressor. My husband unscrewed the panel in the back of the fridge and saw the part on the compressor. He first removed the three wires that it was connected to, and the wires were inside a plug so all he had to do was remove the plug from the start device. He then removed the old start device from the compressor. Plugged in the wire plug into the new start device, and pushed in the new start device into the compressor. There was also another black part plugged into the old start device that he plugged inot the new start device that connected to the compressor. Our freezer and refrigerator starting working. Within a couple of hours our freezer had made ice.

Help the refrigerator compressor start properly with this replacement start device. It connects to the compressor terminals and supplies the electrical input needed during startup. Replacement may be needed if the appliance is warm, the compressor stays off, or clicking sounds repeat from the lower rear area. A bad compressor, damaged wiring, faulty control, or power problem may cause the same symptoms. Inspect and test these items before replacing the device. Unplug the refrigerator and verify that power is off before opening the rear compartment. Allow hot compressor surfaces to cool, label each wire, and follow the appliance service diagram when installing the new device.

Compressor would not run. My daughter was told that compressor was bad and needed to be replaced. Cost would be $550 labor plus parts. I could hear a clicking sound I believe was made by the starter relay. I ordered the parts from part select and had them in three days.
I took the screws out of back panel and slid water line and panel off to the right side while I removed the capacitor and starter relay. Relay was probably the only problem, but I replaced capacitor too while I was doing the repair. Finished removal and replacement in about 20 minutes. While I had panel off I cleaned coils that I could see from behind and then did the same on front side. Cost was $136 for both parts. I could have done it for $71 if I did not replace the capacitor too. Saved my daughter from being taken advantage of.

The refrigerator and freezer stopped getting cold after the some water flooding in the basement.
I safely unplugged the power from the refrigerator first before starting the repair. I then had to remove the bottom access panel which is secured with hex head screws, then disconnected the two plugs from the two failed parts that connects to the appliance compressor. After installing the replacement parts and returning power back to the refrigerator I buttoned up the access panel and I waited at least three hours to turn the cooling system back on. This allows the coolant in the compressor to settle. The two replacements parts fixed the cooling system.

Stopped Cooling. Could hear compressor trying to kick on but would instantly shut off.
I researched everything that I heard and saw on this forum. I realized that I was seeing and hearing the same problems that everyone was having. So instead of being an idiot and taking the fridge to the curb, I decided to spend 86.00 including shipping/handling on 2 small parts (start relay and capacitor). Best money I have spent. Saved me over $1000.00+ THANK YOU!!!! The 2nd best thing was that the parts came in the next day. I didn't expect it for approx 3-4 days. Excellent website and excellent service!!!

Fridge and freezer were too warm
Chose these parts based on suggestion on this website, as well as other sites. They did not correct the problem. Shipping was also quite slow.
