Manufacturer Part Number WF2CB
This is a single OEM water filter used in refrigerators to remove impurities and particles from water that goes through the water and ice dispenser. It is used for reducing cysts, turbidity, lead, mercury, herbicides, and more. If your icemaker is not making ice, not dispensing ice, dispenses too little ice, or there is leakage and the fridge is making loud noises, replacing the water filter may be the solution. This filter is located in the front, top right of side-by-side refrigerators. You will know it is time for a new filter when the light on the freezer door dispenser lights up red, or after 6 months (200 gallons) of use. No tools are required for this easy repair. First, press the release button to pull out the old water filter and push and lock in the new water filter. Run water through the dispenser for about 3 minutes to prime the filter for use. Dispose of the water or use it to water plants. Press the indicator for 3-10 seconds to reset after this repair is complete. This carbon-based filter measures 6 x 3 x 7 Inches and is white plastic.

This OEM cup filter is designed to be compatible with all rear-filter refrigerators made before April 2001. The filter fits into a round white plastic housing. For this repair you may also require the PS428513 wrench or PS428532 O-ring. To install you will need to unscrew the cup before you can see the old filter, and then dump the water. Pull the old filter straight down and place the new filter inside the filter cup. The end of the filter with the O-ring should be directed upward. As you tighten the filter it will align itself. If your refrigerator has a Change Filter light, it will need to be reset. Press and hold this button until the green light flashes (up to 15 seconds). This filter has a 2-Inch depth, 4.25-Inch height, 2-Inch width and needs to be replaced every 6 months of use or 200 gallons depending on which comes first. Filters for: Taste and odor Sediment 99.3% of Lead 99.99% of Cysts 99.7% of Turbidity 99.8% of Particulates (Class I) 94.9% of Atrazine (a herbicide) 94.2% of 2,4-D (a herbicide) 97.8% of Chlorine (Class I) 87.5% of Toxaphene (a pesticide).

Aged parts broken
After sitting in a cold refrigerator for year after year, plastic becomes brittle and breaks. This is what started happening to my shelves and door bins. The problem a lot of times is getting the right part since some of the parts do not have numbers.

This website gives a accurate description and best of all photos on an inch grid, so I can measure what I have and find what I need. This time everything was perfect and fit easily. took no time and just like that I have almost double the space again. Funny how that works. Once before I didn't get the right piece so just pay attention to the dimensions.

Gibson Refrigerator Filter - Drier
PartSelect Number PS464532
Manufacturer Part Number 5303305677
A filter-drier in a refrigerator has two essential functions. The first is to absorb system contaminants, such as water, which can create acids. The second is to provide physical filtration. This means trapping moisture, small metal chips, and dirt found in the refrigerant gas. If your refrigerator motor is constantly running, but the refrigerator is not getting cold, the issue could be due to a damaged or faulty filter-drier. Faulty filter-driers are sometimes the cause for abnormal freezer compartment temperatures and partially frosted evaporators. This filter-drier is approximately 11 inches long. Remember to disconnect the power from your refrigerator before beginning this repair.

Gibson Refrigerator Water Filter Base

PartSelect Number PS976499
Manufacturer Part Number 240396002
This is the replacement water filter base for your refrigerator. It is made of plastic and is mainly white in color. The water filter lines will each have a blue release collar at the top. The water filter base is found at the top of your refrigerator, beneath the console, and it is the part that the water filter presses into. If the O-rings have gone bad, and the filter is leaking, or the locking device has failed and the water filter is not locking in, you may need to replace the water filter base. This part is sold individually and is an OEM part sourced directly from the manufacturer.

Ice-Maker and Water Dispenser not working.
First I disconnected the power cord, then removed the screws that held the bracket that holds the base for the water-filer in place. I then disconnected the water lines(intake and outflow). Next I removed the screws that held the water-filter's base in place. I then disconnected the release lock mechanism for the filter and finally removed the water-filter base. I did the reverse to install the new water-filter base. Previously I had tested the intake water line and noticed the water was flowing with enough pressure upto the water-filter's base but no water was exiting thru the outflow line, which leads to the Ice-Maker and Dispenser. I had tried changing the filter but that didn't solve the problem it was then I had realized that the Base was the problem. The actual problem was the spring-loaded valves for both the intake and outflow lines, which had a plastic prong that protrudes out of the base that is triggered by the filter when installed. The two prongs were worn-down so the filter wasn't activating the spring-loaded release valve to let the water thru. As for the light, I just unscrewed it. Read more...
