This Grease Filter is constructed of Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene and is used to trap grease and help eliminate odors from the exhaust air while cooking. It attaches onto the exhaust and is rated as easy to install. The part is 12 15/16" x 5 3/4", and comes in silver. Refer to your make and model number to ensure this part is right for you. If the exhaust fan of your appliance is not working, this part is the most likely cause. This part is sold individually, and it should be noted that many microwaves require two filters, so you may need to replace both at the same time by purchasing two of this part. You should consider gloves during this simple repair (which requires no tools) to save yourself from getting greasy hands.

KMHS120ESS REQUIRES two charcoal filters
BEWARE: KMHS120ESS takes two charcoal filters. This site doesn't tell you that! I only figured it out after ordering one, receiving it, and removing the vent cover to replace it. So then I had to order another one and pay for shipping a second time (which cost almost as much as the filter itself). C'mon PartSelect, why are these not sold

This Charcoal Filter traps grease from your oven's exhaust to help prevent it from entering the vent, which could cause damage over time. If the exhaust fan on your microwave is not working, you may need to replace your charcoal filter. This charcoal filter is located within the intake grille of your microwave, which will need to be unscrewed and opened to gain access to the filter. The manufacturer recommends that you change your charcoal filter every six months. This filter measures 5 inches by 5.375 inches by 0.375 inches. Be sure to measure your current filter to assure correct replacement. This product is sold individually. We recommend the use of gloves during installation to protect your hands from messy grease during your repair. You should also unplug your appliance at the electrical outlet or switch it off at the breaker. Using a Phillips screwdriver, unthread the screws securing the grill. Open the door and slide the grill to the left and lift it up to remove it. This will allow access to the filter so it can be either replaced or cleaned. Remember to insert the tabs of the grill into the frame and slide it to the right when you are done. To finish, shut the oven door and secure the grill with the screws.

Mounting brackets are fragile and plastic support is easily broken
Replaced the intake grille. The grille should be removed prior to cleaning. The entire part is plastic and easily broken so that the two tabs for the mounting screws are shattered and will not hold the part in place. If one attempts to clean the grille using only a moderate amount of pressure with a cloth the fragile plastic will break

. The part is poorly designed. When the vent is removed to replace the charcoal filter, one may discover that the grille has already been broken in a previous cleaning operation.

A dirty charcoal filter can reduce airflow and allow cooking smells to remain in the room. It sits inside a recirculating microwave vent and absorbs odors as air passes through it. First clean the separate grease filters and make sure the vent openings are not blocked. Confirm fit with the complete microwave model and follow the replacement schedule in the owners manual. Disconnect electrical power before opening the grille, keep track of the screws, and avoid bending the filter frame. Replace the filter when it is dirty or no longer controls odors.

Charcoal filter change every six months
Followed instructions in owners manual
If the microwave exhaust fan is not circulating air properly, there could be an issue with the grease filter. A dirty filter will cause your microwave to run less efficiently and can alter the taste or smell of your food. Filters should be changed every six months for maximum performance. These silver, aluminum filters are sold separately, and are approximately 13 3/8 inches long x 5 7/8 inches wide. Measure your current filter to assure correct replacement. Check your grease filters regularly for particles and grease buildup to see if cleaning is necessary. If there is any visible damage to the filter, it should be replaced straight away.
