The drive belt on a 20+ year old Murray lawn edger had broken from age.
I had to remove the pulley and the belt guard with tools that everyone has - nothing fancy. Once they were off, it was easy to slip on the new belt and reattach the metal guard and the pulley that held the belt.
This height guide is an OEM part that secures onto the cutting disc assembly of your trimmer, preventing it from cutting grass to the ground level. It is 5.5 inches in diameter, black in color, and made of metal. Due to its strenuous applications, it can become cracked, broken, or worn over time, and will require replacing. If you notice the damage or your trimmer starts cutting into the ground, it is time to replace the height guide.
This is an easy repair, which requires a wrench and a screwdriver to carry out.

You'll know if you need a new one if trimming and debris are flying everywhere, as this means the part is broken, damaged, or missing altogether.
