RB797AB1AA Hotpoint Range - Instructions

My husband was able to easily remove and replace the switch and know with-in 15 minutes.

I took a chance and guessed that the problem was the element, as opposed to a thermostat or other part that may have failed. (Oven was made in the 70's) I entered the data for this old oven on the PartSelect.com website and it came up with a part for me to order. When I received the replacement element, I noticed that it was not "exact ... Read more ly" the same shape as the old part, but the dimensions were correct and it fit into the space on the bottom of the oven without any problems. The dimensions of the connectors were pretty close to exactly the same as the old element, and the screw holes in the mounting plate lined up perfectly with the corresponding threaded holes in the back wall of the oven - it took me less than 15 minutes to install the part and the oven appears to be working perfectly again.

Shut off power to the range in breaker box used a .025 inch socket to remove two mounting screws pulled forward slowly to disconnect the two wires.Checked for nicks or cracks in wire installed new element restored power done .

Unplug the old one and plug in the new one. Nice and easy.

Required new light lens for oven this type has five (5) of them; only the oven temp light lens was damaged. took the two screws out that hold it in. gave it a tug ,pulled it through the insulation and pulled the plugs off replaced with new element screwed it back on and good to go. simple if you can handle a screw driver you can do this with a skirt on :)

Remove light bail, glass cover held by two nut screws. Pull socket, removed clips in back, replaced wire connectors, placed new socket in, then glass cover and bail. Wire connected in back, cover plate replaced.

Unplug appliance. Unscrew bolts that hold heating element in place. There will be wires that need to be carefully detached from the heads. Take heating element out. Install new one, reattaching wires and bolts in that order. It might be nice to clean the oven a bit while you're in there, as smelling something burning right after a repair ... The repair was quite simple. I pulled the range away from the wall. Removved 6 screws from the back panel with a nut driver. I the disconnected the wires from the clock control and then removed the 4 screws securing the control board. I loosened the faceplate from the old control with a hair dryer and removed it with a knife. I afixe ... Read more d the faceplate to the new control with two sided tape. Connected the wires to the new control and secured it with the 4 screws. The only problem one might have is the instructions referenced black and purple wires whereas mine were red and blue respectively. Reattached the back panel with the six screws and plugged the power plug back in. Moved the range back against the wall and tested the oven which tested perfectly. Note please disconnect power before proceeding with the installation of the new part.

I simply removed the 2 anchor screws in front of the stove and wrote down the wiring order on the instillation diagram, removed the old burner, removed the two studs, made sure they were installed on the right numbers place them in the new burner, wired the new burner, placed the springs respectively. Put the washers on the studs and replaced the frame screws, lowered the cook top and returned the screws to lock the cook top in place.

I read parts select instructions and i was done in less than 30 minutes. Since 1988, this is the 1st. part that I had to replace. I now have parts select on my favorites list.

(Turn off the Power) Pull stove out, remove the 2 screws that holds switch in place, remove one wire at a time and install on new switch. Slip switch in replace 2 screws. Snap off about 3/4 of the shaft cut down plastic insert for knob, install knob turn on power and it works.
