KSB3 KitchenAid Blender - Instructions

Inserted the screwdriver under the original gear and pried it off. After that you just screw the new gear on, it has reverse threads so no tighting is required.

The part comes with instructions on how to replace the coupling. The instruction basically says to pry out the worn coupling. This is exactly what you should do. Read more up the leftover metal bits. You don't need to find a slim wrench for the motor spindle as suggested by other in the thread ..... just follow the instruction pry out the old coupling.

Took the coupler out with the help of screwdriver and put the new coupler. really easy fix insted of buying a new blender

popped off the old one, popped on the new one. could not have been any easier. :)

Hammer was used to remove the old one, tapping quickly on old coupling. I did use a thin pliers (wire stripper) to hold shaft when I screwed on new coupling, even though it said one did not need to. Good instruction sheet came with the new coupling.

Just as the provided instruction says, pry-off old coupling than screw on the new. This repair was too easy! This blender was out of commission a long time, it is good to have it back in use.

Removed reverse thread coupler, jammed screw driver into fan blade at bottom of mixer, installed new coupler. REMEMBER, REVERSE THREAD!

I used a pair of diagonal cutters to nip away at the drive coupling which had become gummy and soft. This exposed the inner aluminum hub that the drive coupling was molded to. Read more 1/4 turn intervals until it comes off the motor shaft. I thought this was a rough approach, as I was concerned about damaging the threaded motor shaft. Also note that the motor shaft has left handed threads, you would turn clockwise to loosen the drive coupling. The first approach I tried was to use a small ignition wrench, there are two flats directly below the coupling aluminum hub which measured 9/32" across the flats. The wrench even though small would have to been ground thinner to fit, this may have worked. I decided to use approach two. I used my dremel tool with a 1/32" cut off wheel and cut through each side of the aluminum hub staying away from the center where the motor shaft is threaded. Across the center of the hub I only cut through half the thickness, I then used the diagonal cutters to fold each half agains itself (the hub actually fell off). I installed the new coupling turning it counter clockwise on the motor shaft. I attached the blender jar filled with water with the jar lid on and toggled the blender on and off a few times to further tighten the drive coupling.

used needle nose pliers to hold shaft after prying rubber top off. unscrewed metal tap, counterclock wise. installed new piece

Remove blender jar to get to drive cog. Use a 1/4 to 3/8 flat open-end wrench to hold cog shaft then turn the cog with your hand CLOCKWISE to loosen. Screw new cog gear on COUNTERCLOCKWISE hand tight. Reassemble your blender and you're good to go. It takes a very thin flat wrench but even if you have to buy a set the're not very expensive ... A very flat wrench or needle nose pliers was needed. I could not get the nut unscrewed with what I had so I had to mail the unit to a service center for repair. to replace the coupling you take the bottom off the blender and loosen the screws that hold the bracket and fan -then comes the hard part-the shaft screw is bolted through every bit of the guts then into the coupling. It is a lefthand thread. I ended up having to fabricate a piece of metal that slipped into the top of the coupling (in the ... Read more teeth.) Then I secured the metal piece-it was just a twi inch piece of steel- in the vise, I held the blender and I got a big guy to attack the shaft bolt with a bunch of pressure and a straight screwdriver. It finally popped and I was able to unscrew the old coupling and replace it with the new. Reminds of when guys put on lug nuts and I have to try and get them off. But I saved at least $100.

Thanks to the good advise of those who did this before me ,I know I need a very slender wrench to get between the screwed on base of the coupling and the copy of the base of the blender.
I tried to file one myself, but the metal was too weak. Because i had the size (from what I filed), I measured and knew i needed a 7 MM wrench. I bo ... Read more ught one at the parts store and ground it thin enough to slip into the small space and from there it was a five minute job.

Just took a screwdriver and pried off the broken coupling as the instruction said with the part. Don't stress it really works and is easy. Ordered the part on Monday and recieved it on Tuesday. Great service from Partselect!
