KCMS13 - Instructions

Ice covered the top back of the freezer compartment. This did not allow the cold air to move up to the fridge. Complete defrosting (36hrs) fixed the problem. There was a lot of water, from ice inside, that was not visible. We realized the freezer drawer must have been left cracked open. Thanks so much.

The built-in microwave was removed by taking off the front plate that was secured by 3 screws at the bottom. The unit was moved to the side slightly so that the power cord could be disconnected. Read more eed to be shifted slightly to separate it from the unit. Once removed, the bracket latch and opening mechanism for the door was revealed. The latch is inserted simply by aligning the two nipples with the correponding holes in the opening mechanism and gently pushing it into place. The latch is plastic and appears to be vulnerable to breakage over time through constant use, so I have ordered a spare should the problem reoccur.

Ordered the switches from Partselect, arrive in two days. Had trouble removing the plastic connectors from the old switch terminals, one of the plastic protectors broke, but was able to reuse it. It took a little figuring out how to remove the existing switches. Must push in a tab and rotate the switch on a little pin, then remove. Must b ... Read more e careful not to break the plastic tabs holding the switches in place. Replaced all (3) switches at the same time. All in all it was pretty easy.

The door was not engaging the micro switches properly no doubt from 10+ years of wear. The upper switch removed fairly easily but take care not to tweak the plastic brace too much or it will snap. The lower one was the tricky one. After much examination I noticed that the trick to remove it was underneath the brace. Take a butter knife (n ... Read more o joke) and insert it just under the old micro switch and gently press down twisting the micro switch every so slightly til it releases. The replacements snap back in with no trouble. The microwave is working much better now, though not perfect.

Since others reported similar problems and it was just the fuse we tried that first. That wasn't the problem so we ordered the Door Interlock Switch Kit. Shipping was very fast! I started by calling a reputable service company to diagnose my problem. The repair tech told me it was the magnetron and it was a "very difficult" repair that required two people because the over-the-range unit needed to be taken down. I asked for a detailed estimate. It arrived at my door two days later. Installation was very easy. First, I unplugged the unit. Then, while my wife was making sure it did not fall off the wall bracket, I unscrewed the two mounting screws from the top of the cabinet. I lifted the unit down from the wall and set it on the kitchen counter. The shell needed removed from the microwave which involved about 20 screws. This provided access to the magnetron on top. The magnetron is secured by five screws and a plug. I unplugged it, unscrewed it, and removed the old part. Then, I installed the new magnetron, and tested the microwave to make sure this did the trick. It worked. I put the outer shell back on the microwave and cleaned the microwave. (This is a great opportunity to clean the areas you do not typically see!). I then remounted the unit and plugged it back in. Saved myself a bit of money so I took the family out to dinner and a movie to celebrate. Microwave was in working order for heating up left overs the next day! Thank you!!!

Removed 5 screws on microwave trim and three additional screws on cabinet. Pulled microware part way out to expose broken drive belt on top and replaced with new one. Note: Microwave cabinet caught on connector in back of chasse and pulled it loose. Moderate difficulty in reaching back and reconnecting it. Otherwise an easy job that saved ... remove 4 screws from top, front louvered panel snaps out. remove 1 screw from top of keypad, keypad pivot's forward and can be removed. There is a white mounting bracket inside left. They can only attach one way. Using a very small screw tip, lift plastic latch from switch, it rotates out and is removed from the pivot pin. reassemble in reverse order after switches are replaced

First off if you are repairing an appliance this old better have some super glue. Many of these parts are no longer available. If the latch breaks with the door closed you can clear the broken plastic latch and open the door with a straightened coat hanger through the handle into a hole on the door which will trigger the latch. Once th ... Read more e door is open there are two screws that hold the black plastic trim piece on the inside of the door. Remove them both (Phillips head). The piece will come off. The handle is held to the front of the door by two more Phillips head screws. One at the top and one at the bottom. The handle in the front will not yet come off. There is one more screw that can only be reached by separating the door parts so you can get the screwdriver in. Now the whole handle will come off. Orient the new handle "trigger" so the piston can go through the hole in the handle. Be sure to put the spring on so it goes between the trigger and the handle. Now put the handle back on the door being sure to put the piston through the hole in the handle. It is best to put that screw in the middle back in place first then the others at the top and bottom. Put the plastic trim piece back on the inside and your are done. For what it is worth the trigger that I got is brown and not black like the other trim. Really not much of an issue.

Removed splash Guard to replace light bulb, reinstalled splash Guard. Installed new support clip.

I called to make sure I was replacing the correct part. I paid over the phone and it came the next day. Very very easy process.

It literally took me longer to unpackage the fuse than to install it. I removed the outer shell by unscrewing the five screws, lifted it off and set it aside. The old fuse was readily visible so I pulled it out and put the new one in its place. I set the shell back on and replaced the screws. I plugged it in and ran it for 30 seconds ... A $20 part saved me from having to purchase a new microwave (sadly, I had to break the news to the wife).

Partselect sent me the right thing in two days! The whole process was easy as pie.

All the electrics worked on Amana microwave EXCEPT for the cooking function. Inspected the control board and found the upper switch on the door interlock was burnt.
