8419 - Instructions

Ordered belt, received it two days later. It was a perfect fit.
The top of my dryer pops up from the front where 2 screws will allow the front to drop to the ground. Lift the drum slightly to get the belt on. Had to wrestle with the idler arm for about five minutes, but I won.

First, I unplugged the dryer. I pulled up the lint filter, then unscrewed the two screws there. Then pulled up the top panel. I had a helper hold it up since it couldn't lean against the wall. Then I had to take the front panel off the dryer. The idiots at Kenmore used screws, not pins, so I needed to use a socket wrench to get those ... Read more two out of the top corners. Then I lifted it up and off. I removed the broken belt. I put in the new one. I replaced the pulley, which had fallen without the tension of the belt holding it in place. It was pretty easy to figure out how it went, but I consulted the online community for a diagram. I threaded the belt in place, replaced the panels, and viola! It worked. Easy.

Step 1. Read all the comments about how to do this job in this forum. (i found them very useful)

Step 2. Read the directions that come with the dryer (they helped a lot)

Step 3. Don't forget to disconnect the power cord before reattaching the door switch wires (oucH! ) or doing anything with your dryer.

Removed the two screws holding in the Filter and removed the filter.

Removed the two screws holding the front onto the dryer.

Put the belt over the drum and proped the drum up.

Reseated the tension spring and pully in the proper slot. (On my machine it is the position closest to the motor).

-Took top of by prying with screwdriver.
-2 screws and door wire to take off front panel.
-proped drum with 4X4 piece of wood.
-looped belt around drum where the mark for the old belt was.
-looped belt through tensioner and pulled with the screwdriver over the motors drive shaft.

You cant go wrong with the included directions and belt diagram. this is the first repair I've done of any kind that went flawless.

When the dryer drum stopped tumbling, I followed the instructions on PartsSelect to remove pop the top of the dryer and then remove the screws to remove the front panel. Then I could see the broken belt underneath the drum.

I did pull out the drum itself to get a better look at the motor and pulley to see where the new belt wou ... Read more ld need to go. I replaced the drum by pushing it back and then rotating it so it would fit back into the groove on the rear panel.

Once I received the new belt, I followed the steps included with the belt package to loop the new belt around the drum and then thread it over the pulley and around the motor.

The entire repair was very easy and so much cheaper than buying a new dryer.

First I removed screws in lint tray, then opened up top of dryer and removed screms on side- removed front of dryer, put on new belt through idler pulley onto motor, then reassembled dryer. Really easy job and this was my first time working on an appliance

Lift top of dryer. Remove two 1/4" screws that hold the front panel. Disconnect the two wires on the door switch. Lift front panel to remove. Lift drum enough to install the new belt. Reach in to place the belt on the motor and tension pulley. Replace the front panel. check for free rotation of the drum and belt. Close top. Done.

I took the top of the drier off by remoing two screws in back of drier. I also removed the two screws in the lint trap. Tnen i pushed the top in a little and lifted up the lidand leaned it on a 4x4 so it would not pull out the electrical wires, I then took the front of the drier off by removing the 2 screws from the inside of the drier. Read more held the drum up so it would not fall After pulling the front off, i put it to the side and stood the front panel up so I could take the drum off and put the replacement belt around the drum. I thenputh the drum back in the same place and pulled the belt thru the Idle pully and wrapped it arond the motor pulley. While you are putting on the belt, either cut a small 4x4 or have someone hold the drum up. Then put the front panel and the top back on. This was made easy by reading another repair story. I followed instructions here on this site, and repaired the dryer with ease. More details in other posts but it pretty much went like this:
1) take out screws under lint thing, lift top
2) take out two INSIDE bolts in the top of the dryer (5/16" socket), disconnect wires, lift then set aside front
3) clean everything out ... Read more , set dryer on it's back.
4) wrap belt around the tub (rubber facing the tub), and then loop it through the tensioner (which will have fallen out of place, but you can see from the wear where it goes). Note it loops through the tensioner then over the motor wheel, and then back through the tensioner. Took me a little while to figure that out. (put tensioner in place before doing the looping through)
5) put it all back together.
Very satisfying to have it all work again!

Disassembled dryer to gain access. Cleaned out dryer and installed new belt. Reassembled dryer and checked function.

First I had to find my way into unit . I took out screws that didn't have to come out, but eventually I found my way in. I took out the drum put the belt over it and through the tightener then over the motor pulley. I then put the sheet metal back on and the job was done.

First I removed the back panel (and found out later when I received the belt from Partselect.com, that this was unnecessary). I followed the instructions that came with the belt and removed the top panel and then the front panel. I placed a piece of wood under the drum for support so that it would not be just hanging from the back. Then ... Read more I found the broken belt lying on the bottom, and a pulley that was unhinged. I replaced the pulley following the instructions, and vacuumed the motor and all around. I put the new belt around the drum and then through the pulley and onto the motor axle. I replaced all the panels and the dryer is now working like new.

The dryer had been out for over a month and the clothesline drying of clothes, while being energy efficient, did not go well because it was the summer/fall borderline and the ants and bugs were inside the clothes which were brought into the house.

I ... Read more googled my problem and soon enough there were a ton of helpful sites available offering solutions to my problem. So, after I decided to do it myself, I ordered a new belt from part-select. Once the belt arrived, I went back to for help. There was an extremely useful video among the results. The whole thing took me about 20 minutes as I was doing it all by myself. I followed the steps and was able to replace the dryer belt very easily and I am so very thankful to have a working dryer again before the onset of rain and cold!
