19385 (1988) Kenmore Dishwasher - Instructions

My soap dispenser latch was coated in grit, the gasket was deteriorated, and the spring was barely strong enough to open the door, so the door didn't always latch closed or open when it should. I hosed it off on the backyard and resumed the repair. The dispenser now latches easily and opens with a convincing SNAP. I wouldn't have known how to replace the latch without the video. I used a screwdriver to snap off the old wheel carriers. When Ito attached the new pieces the tray wouldn't close. It was too wide. The person at Part Select was most helpful and patient but I still couldn't get them attached so the tray would fit. Then this week-end I visited my daughter and looked in her dishwasher, not the same ... Read more brand but I could see how they attached, came home tonight and was able to figure it our easily. May I say a visual would have helped but your sales person was excellent.

I ordered door cover kit #4387043. It comes with new door cover (lid), new pin, spring, latch and snap. Two problems I encountered was 1)with the spring - there is a trick to replacing it. I had to look up how to put the spring on properly. Go to YouTube and Partselect "Dishwasher Repair - Replacing the Lid Spring (Whirlpool Part # 8 ... Read more 066018) " will show you the trick. Was a cinch after I knew the trick. 2) you must take door apart to replace snap that goes with the latch, so you might want to replace the detergent door first and see if that solves your problem without changing the latch. It is workable, but I had to go on line and look for diagram to put back together. Just frustrating but for less than $20.00 solved the problem. Good luck.
