11020022012 Kenmore Washer - Instructions

After a quick Google search I determined how to pull off the softener dispenser and top cover. Removed one bolt and pulled agitator out and apart.. Anyone who has used a socket set can do it.

Pop the top off the agitator, remove the bolt, pull off the agitator, pull out the part holding the cogs (dog ears),remove and replace cogs, reassemble. Works great now.

from start to finish was about 10 minutes. used screwdriver to pop off top cap of agitator. used ratchet with small extension to take out bolt for agitator. removed agitator, placed it on ground for leverage and pulled off top agitator. carefully observed old directional cogs. flipped top agitator upside down removed old worn out/ broken ... Read more plastic cogs. replaced them with the new ones. hard to screw up they only install one way. kept top agitator upside down and put rest of agitator back on. flipped it right side up and pressed down hard for secure fit. placed agitator back in washer. reinstalled bolt. placed cap back on and was finished...25 year old washer working like new. $2.80 not including shipping...

Removed the top on the agitator. Then removed the screw with a wrench. then I removed the cam and replaced each Directional cog the way they came out. Then I replaced the cam. Tightened the screw on the agitator and replaced the top. Turned the machine on and It started agitating like it was suppose to.

After reading on line how others did it, it was simple. I lifted out the softener dispenser. Under that there was a plastic cap. You just lift it out - theres no fasteners holding it. It just fits snugly in place by means of an o-ring. Under that there is one bolt holding the agitator to the spindle. Loosen that and remove the whole agit ... Read more ator. The agitator then comes apart in the middle. Just pull the two halves apart. The only tool you will need is one socket with a long extention and a ratchet. Once apart you will see the 4 plastic cogs that spin the agitator. The teeth were worn off of mine. I simply replaced the four cogs that come as a set. None of the other parts were worn to the point of needing replacement. I now have a fully functioning washing machine that was repaired for less than thirteen dollars!

1. Lift the softener dispenser up and out
2. Lift up the plastic cap underneath
3. See bolt...use ratchet with extension to loosen and remove bolt
4. Remove whole agitator by simply lifting it up
5. Place agitator on floor and separate top from bottom agitator by simply pulling apart

7. Replace old 4-cog set with a new 4-cog set. They are small and inexpensive parts! I did this and our machine is working just great!

This also gave me a chance to clean the agitator thoroughly!

The top portion of the agitator was not turning so that laundry could be drawn down in the wash tub. The problem was 4 little cogs that where worn and would not catch on a gear/cog portion of the bottom portion of the agitator. the cogs where about $10 delivered and it took about 25 min. to install (from top of washer). The old cogs, I ... Read more also repaired by taking them out and using a hacksaw to redefine the grooves on them. They are still working, so I will hold on to the new parts until needed.

FIRST I printed the directions from an online DIY stie, then removed a single bolt from the center of the agitator. I dismantled the agitator, replaced the dogs, and used to printed page to help me reassemble the agitator. I then replaced the bolt. Go to youtube and watch how to repair washing machine agitator. It is so easy. did the repair. Now it works, less than $20.00 to fix. Now I don't need to buy a new washing machine. Maybe it will make it another 15 years.....

I also ordered a new agitator repair kit which had almost everything. I noticed that I the kit had shorted 3 of the 4 cogs. Once the missing parts were received I removed the agitator bolt from the middle of the agitiator with a rachet and socket. Amazingly, I read the instructions and followed them accordingly. Read more gitator and removed the dogs/cogs and placed the new one in the new dogs *Making "dog gone" (pun intended) sure they were facing the correct way, by comparing them to the instructions. I carefully seated them as per the illustrations on the instructions and replaced the center bolt in. placed the cap on top and started the washer. Then I had my cup of coffee. By the way..I'm a grandmother, so if I can do it.............!

I unscrewed the top cap by hand and used a socket wrench to remove the main center unit.
the rest was very straight forward.

Using the IPB I removed the upper assembly to gain access to the cogs. Turned the assembly over and incerted the new parts and reassembled the pieces in reverse order.

I took a socket and removed the agitator bolt and cover which exposed the cogs. I cold see the cogs were stripped. I changed them and everything works fine.

Pop off fabric soft. dispenser with screwdriver in the slot.
Remove the plastic seal with o-ring w/ pliers.
Remove agitator assy. with 3/8 socket on extension.
Pull up/off top agitator, holding on to the bottom agitator.
R and R the thrust washer between agitators, w/silicon top and bottom.
Remove black sleeve on ... Read more cam and replace cogs in correct position.
Replace agitator and insert cam lined up with tabs and slots, push down firmly to engage tabs.
Replace bolt and tighten.
Insert seal w/ o-ring coated with soap and push down to groove.
Replace softener reservoir.
