Ryobi Edger Push Cap

This depth restrictor push cap fastens the depth restrictor wheel in your edger, which serves to prevent you from setting the cutting depth of your machine too low. It acts as a safety feature that limits how deep the blade can go into the ground. Typically located near the motor housing on the bottom part of the edger, a damaged push cap may show visible deformations and cause the restrictor wheel to slip during operation. Without a functioning push cap, you risk setting the cutting depth too low, potentially damaging the edger or underground structures. To remove a damaged push cap, use a flathead screwdriver to gently pry it off, starting at one edge and applying even pressure. Please note that this OEM replacement part does not include the depth restrictor wheel.

A depth restrictor is used to prevent you from exceeding the depth limit of your edger and cutting too deeply into the ground. This wheel works within that mechanism and directly with the guide wheel that you adjust, to allow you to smoothly move the edger along the ground. This wheel is made of plastic and is sold as an individual OEM part without the necessary clip to secure it to its axle, which is sold separately. Since this wheel is made of plastic, it can break, split, or wear down over time due to normal wear and tear. To replace this wheel you will need to remove the clip that secures it, and then you can replace it with the new wheel and refasten the clip.
