Water didn't always shut off when you removed your cup. Thought it was just the spring but on disassembly found broken plastic that was preventing the spring from working properly.

- With a plastic thin putty knife remove the trim panel around the water dispenser. There are plastic clips along each side that just need to be slid inward slightly to release the trim. The thin plastic putty knife worked great for this.
- Remove the electronic panel by pushing the top of the panel down slightly to pull out at the top. The bottom will then come out easily. Remove all electrical connections so the board can be detached completely.
- Unscrew the four screws at the corner of the Dispenser Housing Shield. Before removing, note the position of the wire runs for re-installation.
- Take some pictures of how the old Ice Funnel is attached then remove it and reinstall the new Funnel.
- Make sure wires are in their proper place before screwing the Dispenser Housing Shield back in place with the four screws.
- Connect wires to back of electrical panel and angle the panel into the proper place at the bottom and then pull down slightly to go in the top.
- Reattach the trim by gently pressing the plastic tabs into each slot.

Frozen water dispenser line; install water line heater

This should have been easy, but I couldn't get the housing shield off. I removed the 4 screws but it wouldn't come off. It seemed to be stuck in the lower right. (It seems that many people have the same problem.) I decided to destroy the old one and install a new dispenser housing shield, and replace the flapper while I was at it. I finally got the shield off (by taking a pipe wrench to it and breaking it into little pieces) and discovered what the problem was: the light in the lower right had melted the plastic of the dispenser shield, which fused to the plastic of the housing! Bad design, GE! After that, it was no problem. However, I couldn't remember how to replace the microswitch. I should have taken a picture, first. Duh. Lucky for me, Parts Select had a very informative video showing how to replace the microswitch. ! was saved! Thanks, Part Select!

repair would have been relatively easy if i had purchased a new ice funnel #ps758841 along with the dispenser housing shield so it would have been more of a matching set. i reused the old ice funnel and it ended up working but i had to heat it up with a hair dryer to straighten up the "arms" because they had warped over time with use and didn't fit quite right in the new housing, rubbing against it, causing a intermittent "switch" problem.

The water line was freezing up frequently. I purchased the dispenser water tube heater kit. I was able to remove the plastic trim and the electrical board on the freezer door, but the dispenser housing shield would not come off even though i removed all 4 screws. It is loose on the left, but the right side is solid. I am afraid i will break the whole assembly if i force it.
Chris Boyle Profile
Hello Ken, Thank you for your inquiry. It is supposed to just pull right out after you've removed the 4 screws so there may be a piece broken off or cracked. I would try sliding a plastic card in the right side and pushing in gently while trying to pull it out. Hope this helps!

Dispenses ice and crushes ice, but does not dispense water. I did change the water filter and it still does not dispense water.
Chris Boyle Profile
Hi Ramesh, Thank you for your question. There are some parts that you will need to check to see which one is causing the issue. First you will need to check the water inlet valve to see if it is allowing water to the water dispenser. The dispenser door solenoid assembly,This part is a possible option when ice door won't open or shut properly or when water is not dispensing. The micro switch, This switch is responsible for sending the signal to dispense water. You can test these parts with an Ohm meter to check for resistance. Hope this helps!

Believe i melted something trying to thaw the water line with a hair dryer. I removed the four screws holding the dispenser housing shield, but still cannot remove the shield. It reacts like the lower right screw is still in place. Any suggestions? Thanks.

The water and ice fail to stop when pressed and released, to stop the ice i press the water button and vise versa also if i open the door the water and ice does cease. What parts will i need? Also i cant remove the shield, WR17X11170, even with screws removed, the right side is loose, but the left wont move, pls help
Chris Boyle Profile
Good Day Martin. Thank you for your question in regards to your unit (Model Number GSH25JSXLSS). Based on our research, once the screws come off then the Dispenser Housing Shield should pull right out. If this is not the case then there may be something that is blocking it from coming out. The following link will bring you to a page with a list of parts that may need to be replaced to fix the issue you are having: https://www.partselect.com/AdvancedModelSymptoms.aspx?ModelNum=GSH25JSXLSS&mfgModelNum=&fkMfgID=2&ModelMasterID=335657&PID=57 Hope this helps.
