evaporator freezing up/no defrost cycle
3 of 5 people found this instruction helpful.
  • geoffrey from lawrence, KS
  • A Bit Difficult

  • Nutdriver, Screw drivers
The defrost timer is faily easy to replace, first unplug the unit, then remove the toe gaurd, then lay on the floor with your light and phillips screwdriver, locate the 2 screws at the lower left side, remove them and the timer and it's shield will drop down. unplug the old timer, plug the new one in and re-install everything. The temp se nsor is located in the back of the freezer compartment. Again make sure the unit is unplugged, remove freezer shelves and lower basket, then with a 1/4" nut driver, remove the screws holding the rear panel on, remove the panel and locate the sensor on the upper evaporator tube, unclip it and disconnect the 2 wires, reverse procedure and plug it back in. Not to get on a soap box, but this is the 3rd time i have had the same problem with this unit, plus several other problems.

Freezer wasn't cooling - compressor not engaging

Ordered the Capacitor and the Thermostat Control. Parts were received in a matter of a few days, easy to install, but did not fix the problem. Had to call a repairman to fix the problem (compressor relay - this part not available to order for this model number with Parts Select). Will continue to use Parts Select in the future for other p arts, but not happy that the actual part I needed was not available - had to use other methods.

Frost in freezer, fridge not cold
2 of 3 people found this instruction helpful.
  • Bob from Pinole, CA
  • A Bit Difficult
  • 30 - 60 mins
From most posts I've read, the defrost timer was the culprit so I blindly ordered one. Easy install but did not fix the problem so I broke out the ohm meter. The only other 2 items it could be all tested good with my meter so I bypassed the defrost thermostat (per forum help...actually quite easy)and it defrosted fine, which told me I nee ded a new defrost thermostat. Installed fairly easy and problem gone.

Cooling coils would ice up and fridge would warm up
2 of 3 people found this instruction helpful.
  • Richard from Tehachapi, CA
  • Really Easy
  • 15 - 30 mins
  • Nutdriver
I removed the shelves in the freezer, took out the five 1/4" screws and lifted off the cover. It was a simple matter of using a blow drier to remove all the ice, then unplugging the two wires and unclipping the thermostat from the upper cooling tube. Then clipped the new one on and reconnecting the two wires.

Works great!!!

the refrig was in storage for about a year, the freezer door warped
3 of 6 people found this instruction helpful.
  • Jeffery from Phillipsburg, NJ
  • Really Easy
  • Less than 15 mins
removed freezer door and installed the new one. This was a pretty easy thing to do, although putting the old handle on the new door was a challenge. No knowing that there is a plastic piece holding the top of the handle i broke the that piece and had to order another one. Mean while the freezer was making alot of frost inside, so that had to be cleaned after the new part came.

Had to remove all screws on rear back cover of freezer inside, unplugged refridgerator, uncliped thermostat, unpluged thermostat. Replaced thermostat with new one in the same location, and let defrost fulley. Reassembled, pluged in, and tested. All was good. But I did also replace timer at first part of the repair so I suggest you re place both at the same time.

The original support was broken, tried epoxy and it only held for a few months before breaking again
2 of 3 people found this instruction helpful.
  • Arand from Yorktown, IN
  • Really Easy
  • Less than 15 mins
  • Pliers
All I had to do was remove the original support that was on the inside wall of the refrigerator, which I had to use pliers since there were broken pieces, and then I just snapped the new one into the three holes provided for this support. The crisper drawer works fine now. It literally only took about 1 minute.

refrigerator shelf guard kept falling off, causing everything to come crashing down
2 of 3 people found this instruction helpful.
  • Kathryn from Anadarko, OK
  • Really Easy
  • Less than 15 mins
Simply popped the new end caps into place with the old guard and now it is tight and secure. Easy Peasy. Of course all this is after the operator at PartSelect ordered the right part for me; I had ordered the freezer door end cap, not what I wanted. I received the correct part the very next morning. Returning the wrong part was a breeze too.

Freezer fine, fridge too hot!
2 of 3 people found this instruction helpful.
  • Marc from Chesterfield, MA
  • Really Easy
  • Less than 15 mins
  • Nutdriver
Removed the back panel in freezer compartment with the nut-driver. Then I cut off old thermostat connections, and spliced in new thermostat connections (repairman had already replaced defrost timer, and said not to trust connectors included on wires-they failed often). Then I snapped thermostat itself onto cooler coil. So far so good, fridge is running at 35-40 degrees a week later. Thanks Parts-Select!!!
