Remove the 4 screws holding the back cover onto the refrigerator. Unplug the power for the refrigerator. There's 3 bolts holding the fan motor assembly to the refrigerator. Loosen the two bolts which allow the brackets to pivot out , and remove the third bolt. Disconnect the electrical leads, and remove the fan blade, then rotate th e fan motor assembly out from the refrigerator. Install mounting brackets from the old motor onto the new motor, then reinstall the assembly in the reverse order of removal.

Difficulty in removing the old switch
5 of 8 people found this instruction helpful.
  • James from Federal Way, AL
  • A Bit Difficult
  • 30 - 60 mins
  • Screw drivers, Socket set
The old switch was hard to remove. Thinking that I may have to loosen the wires I used a socket wrench to remove a clamp. This was unnecessary. In the end the switch did come out using a large size screwdriver. The problem was that the expanding plastic tongue is not visible from the ouside so you have to try to feel your way around. If i had ordered the replacement before and not afterwards I would have seen this before hand.

I was so pleased to find your website. We have just one company here in Columbia,S.C. that sells refrigerator parts. I did find out that they wanted about $60.00 for both pieces. Needless to say,I was just going to do without. I knew there had to be someone else. I found you guys on line, ordered my parts for a little over $5.00 a piece,an d I put them in myself. I'm talking standard GE parts, not knockoffs. I am so pleased. Thanks for being there. I tell everyone about you.

We found a snap ring and washer in a glass of ice
3 of 4 people found this instruction helpful.
  • Randy from Cohasset, AL
  • Easy
  • 15 - 30 mins
  • Pliers, Screw drivers
I took the ice maker tray out and dumped the ice and then removed 4 screws to take the plastic front off the drawer. I then took 4 more screws out to remove auger assembly. I could now unscrew the broken nut and replace it with the new one and put the snap ring and washer back in place and then put everything back together. Done
Had I had my lathe running at the time I would have made this part out of aluminum instead of the new one and original that is out of plastic which is why it did not last.

switchlight on my refrigerator was not working
5 of 10 people found this instruction helpful.
  • Eileen from Coto de Caza, CA
  • A Bit Difficult
  • 30 - 60 mins
  • Pliers
I found instructions on the web about how to do this repair, so I ordered the part with confidence. But the instructions simply said "pull out the old switchlight". That was actually somewhat difficult as the clip on the side intended to hold the part in was stubborn. I eventually used a utility to slice off the clip. From that point, it was just a matter of plugging in the new switchlight , which was very simple.
