If you notice poor performance from your tiller when reversing or hear squealing and other unusual noises, inspect both drive belts for any signs of visible damage. To replace this drive belt, make sure the engine is cool and disengage the spark plug cap. Use a wrench to remove the belt guards on top and below the belt, if necessary. Then, using 2 wrenches, disconnect and remove the securing idler bolt and any washers, after which you can remove the belt through the bottom of the unit. Check to make sure the forward drive belt is in good condition before you install the new reverse drive belt. Pull the reverse drive belt up through the bottom of the unit and install it to the appropriate pulleys and tension wheel, followed by any washers and the securing bolt which you will need to tighten. Then simply replace the belt guards if applicable.
