KSB5W KitchenAid Blender - Instructions

I followed the instructions on the sheet that came with the replacement part. The instructions are accurate, however, the working is misleading. Once all the rubber has been removed then it becomes easier to see the metal rod that holds the coupling and distance between the coupling and the base of the blender, take the screwdriver and gently pry the coupling off in an upward movement while going around in a circular manner. Then you can see the coupling rising up from the rod. Then take a hold of the broken coupling and pull it off. Then attach the new coupling, screwing it on counterclockwise. Once you realize what is going on, it's actually quite easy.

My husband lifted off the old piece with some difficulty and then just screwed it back on. We were really glad to have our blended back as good as new for under 20$!

Went to several online blog sites. Repair of the Kitchenaid blender is a hot topic. Could not repair it the way the instructions indicated. One person used a hammer and that did the trick! Who would have thought to use a hammer?!

I used a straight edge screwdriver. At first my husband and I were afraid to much too much force behind the old coupling, but I figured it's no good the way it was so used more force and "pop" it came off. Then installed the new one and I love my blender!!

Being an aircraft mechanic for years I pride my self on being able to fix anything that my wife buys. So I tried to replace the drive gear for her kitchen aid blender without reading the instructions, much easier to read.

I first tried to do the repair just like the directions ,trying to force off the wheel. Then I tried doing it the way the readers here did with a tthin pliers and was not sucessfull. I then took it to a hardware store and ask about a certain pliers,they did not have it. The older man at the register took two screwdrivers from the jar next ... Read more to him took my blender and pried on either side and popped off the wheel just like the original directions said. It was then easy to put the new one on.

Last time this happened we simply used a thin wrench to unscrew the damaged coupling. This time it was so tight no wrench could undo it. We had to grind it off using a grinder drill until it was so loose it popped off.

Here it arrived, installed the part and away the problem went. While on the parts list I included bag brackets that had broke over time and now my compactor is like new.

I used a pair of diagonal cutters to nip away at the drive coupling which had become gummy and soft. This exposed the inner aluminum hub that the drive coupling was molded to. Read more 1/4 turn intervals until it comes off the motor shaft. I thought this was a rough approach, as I was concerned about damaging the threaded motor shaft. Also note that the motor shaft has left handed threads, you would turn clockwise to loosen the drive coupling. The first approach I tried was to use a small ignition wrench, there are two flats directly below the coupling aluminum hub which measured 9/32" across the flats. The wrench even though small would have to been ground thinner to fit, this may have worked. I decided to use approach two. I used my dremel tool with a 1/32" cut off wheel and cut through each side of the aluminum hub staying away from the center where the motor shaft is threaded. Across the center of the hub I only cut through half the thickness, I then used the diagonal cutters to fold each half agains itself (the hub actually fell off). I installed the new coupling turning it counter clockwise on the motor shaft. I attached the blender jar filled with water with the jar lid on and toggled the blender on and off a few times to further tighten the drive coupling.

Hammer was used to remove the old one, tapping quickly on old coupling. I did use a thin pliers (wire stripper) to hold shaft when I screwed on new coupling, even though it said one did not need to. Good instruction sheet came with the new coupling.

The part comes with instructions on how to replace the coupling. The instruction basically says to pry out the worn coupling. This is exactly what you should do. It might sound strange or brute force but it actually works. The coupling is actually made of some soft metal that comes out easily. The only downside is that you have to clean ... Read more up the leftover metal bits. You don't need to find a slim wrench for the motor spindle as suggested by other in the thread ..... just follow the instruction pry out the old coupling.

Removed reverse thread coupler, jammed screw driver into fan blade at bottom of mixer, installed new coupler. REMEMBER, REVERSE THREAD!

Just as the provided instruction says, pry-off old coupling than screw on the new. This repair was too easy! This blender was out of commission a long time, it is good to have it back in use.
