Element not heating

This was a countertop mounted cooktop. The hardest part of the repair was getting the cooktop out of the hole and separating the glass top from the burner box. It is highly recomended that you have two people to seperate the top from the burner box. Be sure you turn off the breaker to the cooktop first before you do any work. One time sav er is once you have the top sperated from the box use 2- 10"-12" pieces of 1x2 or 2x4 to prop the top open. This will eleminate the need to disconnect the power leads (be sure the breaker is OFF). If you are not electrically inclined mark the color of the wires to the corrosponding terminals on the new element BEFORE you remove them from the old element. The element that I replaced was the dual heat element. I ended up having to change 2 of the terminal ends on the wiring harness becacuse they were too small for the new element. Carefully remove the wires from the old elenent using needle nose pliers and remove the old element by removing the 2 screws that hold the element to the hold down clips, then loosen the clip mounting screws & remove the element. Change terminals if needed & reassmble in reverse order. Once I got it reassembled with a couple of the top mounting screws in, I turned on the breaker and tested for proper operation. Breaker OFF, finish reassembly and remount. You may want to consider replacing foam gasket before remounting. Good luck... R. Moore

I priced a new two-burner unit and it was going to cost $300. I took the broken unit apart, saw that it was an element that had suffered catastophic failure and found partselect on the internet. $60 and three days later I had the part in hand. The repair was "a piece of cake." Thanks for saving me a lot of money.

Interior glass broke when broiler pan was left in oven during cleaning

Read all others' directions and suggestions. Screw loosening spray was essential to remove the bracket holding the broken piece. Print out the blow-up showing parts from website. Read directions on removing and replacing door in original manual. Lay oven door on counter top front side up with hinges hanging over edge. I prefer a manual s crewdriver - less risk of stripping screws. Start by removing screws at bottom edge. Next, side strips and then top piece with handle. Removing layers, being careful to keep them in order and turned the right way. Note the center piece of glass is held in place only by the parts around it so everything has to be tight and aligned. Put back together in reverse order with replacement glass part. My 10+ year old oven is as good as new. BTW I am a 67 year old woman.

Oven wouldn't heat above 300 deg. F.
5 of 5 people found this instruction helpful.
  • Barry from WOODSTOCK, GA
  • Difficult
  • 1- 2 hours
  • Nutdriver, Pliers, Screw drivers
I tried taking the sensor out, but the plastic coupling behind the oven wall had melted and the melted piece was larger than the opening in the oven wall. I had to use a mini-screwdriver to chip away at the melted coupling before it would fit through the opening. That took forever...but it finally worked and the repair went quickly (15 minutes) after that.

Electric coil burned
5 of 5 people found this instruction helpful.
  • George from LEXINGTON, MA
  • Really Easy
  • 30 - 60 mins
  • Nutdriver, Pliers
The repair was easy but the replacement coil had 4 connections while the old one had only two. After calling the distributor with no explanation of how to solve the problem I was given a telephone number of Jenn Air. They explained that my unit was too old and they no longer provided the part I needed.
I then decided to do the follow ing. Of the 4 connections on the replacement coil, two are larger and two are smaller. I then decided to connect the wires to the two larger connections leaving the small ones free. I replaced the cooktop and WOW it worked. Not sure what the smaller connectors are used for but with old cooktops it seems they are not needed.
I can submit a photo but have no means to do it here

My wife dropped something on the inner glass and broke it.

  • Paul from Woodstock, GA
  • A Bit Difficult

I read all the repair stories here. They gave me the courage to try it. I pulled the oven door out and up. I placed the door HANDLE SIDE UP on a pad on a table. I removed the screws from the bottom and sides and began disassembly. First the bottom, then sides. I came apart easily, I set the insulation aside, then removed the screws and br acket holding the glass. I cleaned all the parts and glass. I replaced the glass and insulation and put it back together in reverse order. I put the drill/driver clutch on low so as not to strip any screws. I checked for tightness with a hand screwdriver. I re-attached the door to the oven by pushing both tabs into oven simultaneously. It took a couple of tries. In all, the fix It wasn't too difficult. I was able to handle it all myself except that my wife helped with cleaning the parts and glass. Now it looks like new again.
