Discharge the capacitor by creating a short circuit between each terminal and between each terminal and the chassis. Do so by using a pair of insulated-handle needle-nose pliers to simultaneously touch both terminals. Alternatively, you can use a well-insulated screwdriver, touching one terminal and gently sliding it forward to the other terminal, holding it there for a few seconds. Avoid touching the metal part of the tool and be aware that this can result in a loud and startling popping sound. Once discharged, you can safely disconnect the wires and remove the mounting fasteners. Please note that this OEM replacement part is sold individually.
