Burner wouldn't light
53 of 63 people found this instruction helpful.
  • Jeffrey from Freehold, NJ
  • Really Easy
  • Less than 15 mins
  • Pliers, Screw drivers
I removed the old igniter by working a thin screwdriver under the edge of the igniter, and carefully prying it up. I then used pliers to pull off the electrical wire. Connected up the new igniter, and pushed it back into the hole. A very simple repair.

I've replaced 2 igniters on this stove. My symptoms were that when I tried to light one of the bad burners I heard clicking, and could see the spark on the other (working) burners. So I knew the basic sparking function was working. Just that the igniter on the broken burner would not spark.

No click or ignition after turning on burner - had to replace Ignitor Switch assembly
21 of 24 people found this instruction helpful.
  • Ken from Stony Brook, NY
  • A Bit Difficult
  • 1- 2 hours
  • Nutdriver, Pliers, Screw drivers, Socket set, Wrench (Adjustable), Wrench set
Do not remove the gas line.

Take off the burner racks and burner covers

Gently extract/remove the ignitors from each burner. You may have to use pliers, but be careful. They are ceramic.

Once you pull out the ignitors, you can remove the ignitors from their wires using plyers, you may have to twist them a little.

To take off the top - use Star screw drivers to remove the burners

Remove all the burners.

The star screws, and the burners are the only thing holding the top on.

Take off the steel top.

That exposes the ignitor switch assembly.

Make sure you follow the positioning diagram that comes with the new part.

Thats it really.

I removed the gas, because I thought I had to, but you don't need to. You can do the whole job in 30 minutes if you are careful.

Hope it helps.

A rubber grate foot on my range top had worn out. I pulled the worn foot out and installed the new grate foot with no tools or accessories. Good as new! Now I don't have to worry about the grate scraping my range top and scratching the paint. I also ordered extras so I won't have to wait if another wears out.

Replacing Spark Igniter
13 of 17 people found this instruction helpful.
  • RICHARD from HERNDON, VA
  • Really Easy
  • Less than 15 mins
  • Pliers
Pulled the old one out. Disconnected the wire. Repaired the frayed wire cover with Liquid Tape. Connected the wire. Inserted the new part into the hole. This is after installing a new spark module earlier. But that was dumb easy too. So for about $100 bucks in parts and an hour of my time I saved myself the appliance repairman money and agonizing scheduling and dealing with them for the price of gold. I also replaced all the gaskets on the burners in that time. It so easy even a financial planner could do it.

have no leaks. Removed insulation, and installed

spark module.. Reassembled unit, placed in

counter cut out, put 110 volt cord into outlet.

Tested all burners, everything worked great..

The repair took about hour and 15 minutes.

Have fun and be careful...... THE END

Shorted out the Spark igniter blew on gas stovetop and I had to repace it

In order to replace the spark igniter switch and harness, order the appropriate model replacement part for your GE gas model. Turn of the circuit breaker if it is not already in the locked off position. Remove grates, gas covers, knobs and all from the cooktop surface. Unscrew all the screws with a clover tipped screw driver. Pull up and out on the 4 porcelain flints at each burner. Lift top up. You will see the part that needs to be replaced to your far right. Unplug it and remove it. Replace and connect the replacement. Reverse the process on opening the stovetop until everything is back in place as before. Flip your circuit breaker back on. Done.

After my housecleaner had been here, I noted that 2 of the little rubber feet were missing from the top grates.

I was pretty upset as the grate wobbled, so I went on line and looked for GE Profile parts. To my amazement, I found the little rubber feet quite easily, and within 2 days they were here at my home. I simply had to stick them in the holes; however, I noted that they did not fit real tight, so I removed them and shot a little glue on the m, and they have been in place ever since. Thanks to you guys, I am a happy camper now!!!

Two igniters inoperable due to bad igniter switches
3 of 3 people found this instruction helpful.
  • Robert from HARRISON CITY, PA
  • Really Easy
  • 30 - 60 mins
There are already some very good instructions for this repair on the website - I followed them as written. I recommend going through the instructions carefully first to make sure you have everything you will need and so you know what to expect. Also, if practical I recommend you do the disassembly before ordering the parts so you know e xactly what you need. A couple of burner gaskets got messed up during disassembly, so I decided to replace them and ordered a couple along with the harness assembly. A couple of the igniters were difficult to disconnect from the wiring and I was afraid I was going to break some, but managed to get them off intact. The replacement harness assembly didn't look just like the old one that I removed and at first I thought I'd have to exchange it. Check the paper that comes in the box with the harness and it will show how the new one goes on. Everything went back together easily and all igniters are operating.

Gas coke top wouldn't lite
3 of 4 people found this instruction helpful.
  • James from ABINGDON, VA
  • A Bit Difficult
  • 30 - 60 mins

First step is to turn off the electrical then disassemble the cook top. It is secured to pan by each of the burner mechanisms. Disconnect the spark wire from each porcelain drip pan. Separate the glass top from the pan. If it's stuck gently slide a putty knife int between the two to separate and carefully set the glass top aside. The spa rk module was a bit challenging in that the colors of the wires didn't match so if you aren't comfortable with electrical work I would get help. The module didn't fit the bracket so,I had to drill new holes and use self tapping screws to mount it. The other part part I intended to change was the spark igniter switch. Unfortunately the wiring was incompatible so I had to return that part. This top was sold by Kenmore but made by GE and is over 10 years old so I suspect an engineering change obsoleted my part. Overall the job wasn't that bad if you are reasonably mechanical..

Bowls were 14+ years old and needed replacement
4 of 8 people found this instruction helpful.
  • Ken from Dacula, GA
  • Really Easy
  • Less than 15 mins
Very easy once I got the right parts - when I ordered I didn't realize that the center holes were what determined whether I needed "small" or "medium/large"...I was going by the exterior dimensions I returned 3 of the 4 I ordered and re-ordered the right size. My wife ended up replacing the rest of them herself after watching me do the one that did fit. Looks like a new stove!
