Have had the Sears repairman come to the house to replace this part in 5 minutes for +$100.. twice. When my dad's stopped working, ordered the part and replaced it myself for the cost of the part and shipping.
Use a screw driver to pry the right side of the switch and pull out. Best to watch a youtube video first. Takes about 5 minut es.

Switched the refrigerator circuit breaker to off. Put tape around the switch to prevent scratches. Wedged the putty knife into the right side of the switch and pried up.the switch and connector popped out. Removed the connector from the old switch and connected it to the socket in the new switch. Stuffed the new switch and connector back into its home. Switched on the circuit breaker. Now we have light in the refrigerator with every opening!

I ordered the part from Partselect, received it two days later, installation couldn’t be easier, remove two screws from the hinge and slide the old part out, remember to unhook the electric line. To install just do it in the opposite order.

  • Grace from GALLOWAY, NJ
  • A Bit Difficult
  • 15 - 30 mins
  • Screw drivers
After watching a few iTunes videos I was able to order the light switch from part select and within a week I had the new switch. I had a little trouble getting the switch out. I used a flat screw driver and taped around the edge to keep from damaging the wall inside. I found the clip on the right side and had to use some force to get it p opped out, you may need to use pliers to disconnect the switch.

I received the glass shelf for my refrigerator totally shattered!
4 of 4 people found this instruction helpful.
  • Yvette from RCH CUCAMONGA, CA
  • Really Easy
  • 30 - 60 mins
When I sent an email about this and asked for a replacement, I was told I would need to send it back. I wrote back and reiterated that the glass was shattered and did they really want me to send it back. I again said just send me the replacement. Instead I got a response that sending it back was not necessary but that I would receive a re fund and would need to reorder the part again. The part was $47.91 when I first purchased it. Now to reorder it is $54.98. I saved it in my shopping cart so I can shop around before purchasing this again. I am disgusted that I need to go through this again and now at a higher price. I have more parts to order but am reconsidering do so.

The spring broke

  • Steven from YORBA LINDA, CA
  • Very Difficult
  • 30 - 60 mins
I could not as the spring was too large and did not fit. Calls to Parts Select were not very useful as I described the problem and was told that that was the correct part, even though I supplied photos.
Rather than research the problem, I was told to call LG. Not exactly the response I expected from an authorized distributor. By the way, LG service said to call an authorized distributor, so round and round I go Please help.

The old switch was a little hard to get out....took me a couple tries. I couldn’t move the frig out to unplug it, so just shut the power off in the kitchen. But, I was happy that’s what the problem was and so happy to have the light back on......it was probably three years it didn’t work!

Hardest part was unplugging the refrigerator!

I actually took a picture of the correct spring installation at a big box store that carried LG. I had called LG, but they said they didn't have any installation brochures, and to call a registered LG repairman. That was out of the question, since the repairman would charge $100 just to show up.

  • BG from WEATHERFORD, TX
  • Really Easy

  • Pliers
I looked at the picture I took. Used needle nose pliers and inserted one end. Unless the lady of the house is very strong, this should be handled by a man, because of the rigid spring. Once the spring was inserted into one side of the flap, I used the pliers to get the other end into the proper slot. Very easy, but the spring is very strong !!
