6128 - Instructions

Read on line that the motor module in the ice maker was likely to be the problem. I ordered the part and it came in as a complete module. All I had to do was to remove the cover, take out 3 philips screws, remove the old module and install the new one. I plugged it back in and had ice within the hour.

Removed old ejector arm and installed new part.

Unplugged the frig., removed three screws, pulled the motor out, then slid the new motor in. Within a few hours I had ice again. The only problem was I felt the motor was still hooked to something after I took out the screws. Open the icemaker service, door slide it out, remove wiring, remove ice maker control cover,remove 3screw, put new one in, put everything back together and with in 6 hours we have ice again. PS my husband did it though.

i unplugged the unit,unscrewed the outer shell so that all the wiring and internal components were visible.starting at the first of three micro switches i removed the slip on terminals installed the alligator clips too the wires so the switch would now be bypassed.i made sure the wires and clips were not touching anything plugged unit in ... 1. Removed all 4 screws underneath with nutdriver
2. Whole assembly slides out like a drawer
3. Unplugged power/wire harness
4. Removed Motor Assembly - 3 screws
5. Found the broken plastic wheel
6. Ordered part on PartsSelect

7. Received new part next day
8. Put the new motor ass ... Read more embly back on using the original 3 screws (it doesn't come with new ones)
9. Slid unit back into drawer
10. Put the 4 Nut Driver Screws back in (tricky to get the wire harness cover back in place, but not that bad)
11. Plugged in wire harness
12. Turned on the ice-maker
Ice Dropped within the hour.

Unplug fridge, turn off water to fridge
Uninstall ice maker (some tools needed)
Remove ice buildup inside water line

Purchase new ice maker and installed it while watching a youtube video of how to do it. Once installed, turned on the water line and plugged in fridge.

after reading reviews on changing the control module I decided it couldn't be very difficult. I was rewarded because it wasn't. It took less than 20 minutes to change the module. At first I was concerned because the wheel did not start turning as soon as power was connected. I discovered this is normal and 30 minutes later the icemaker ... Read more was making ice again. Simply remove the 3 screws, carefuly pull the module away from the shutoff arm, and pull it out. putting the new one in is the exact reverse. You just have to realign the ejecter cam in the icemaker with the new module so it slides right in.

After reading the stories on your site, I figured it had to be the motor control. Easy to take off, but had to take the tray off the freezer wall to get the ice out. Once I did that it was a piece of cake. Now I have ice (and vodka tonics...).

We replaced this part 5 years ago, so we considered ourselves "experienced" at this particular job. Disconncted power, pulled plug on disconnect, loosened 3 ice maker attach screws, removed ice maker. carefully removed old broken part, to understand reasembly. Reinstalled new water fill & bearing part.. hung icemaker and tightened attach screws. Reattached electrical plug.. turned on power, it all worked. .took about 45 min to remove ...
