Followed video provided by Part Select. Video made it look easier than it was but was very thorough and I was able to accomplish repair in less than an hour! The agitator before repair would bounce up and down when I pressed hard and let go. After repair it was much tighter!! Evidently this is a common problem with this design of Whirlp ool washers!

  • Really Easy

followed video instruction that came with part. Previously watched youtube video (there are several, the low production videos are well worth viewing over the professional types). It was a breeze, other than the videos saying one person could do all four. When you get to the last rod, it is more difficult to lift the tub to insert the final rod in the round holder. I asked my wife for assistance.

Removed agitator cover with small screwdriver. Removed bolt holding agitator with socket on 6" extender. Pulled agitator up and out. Replaced thrust spacer adding tiny amount of silicone grease. Replaced agitator directional cogs adding small amount of silicone grease. Note direction of cogs first or they will make a loud ratcheting no ise. Reassemble. The drawing on this site is helpful.

Rinse cycle kept repeating, did not spin clothes

  • Shane from CLINTON TWP, MI
  • Really Easy

Spin indicator light was illuminated but machine was repeating rinse cycle rather than spinning water out of clothes. Replaced the pulley and drive coupler, thinking there was a mechanical problem. Video instructions were great but old pulley and drive coupler looked perfect so replacing them did nothing. Next I replaced the washer actu ator (shifter), thinking that was the reason for no high speed spin. Easy job, as shown in the video, but it also did nothing. The problem turned out to be a failure in the control panel, probably resulting from years of vibration. Decided to stop chasing my tail and bought a new washer.

the top section of the agitator would not turn

  • joseph from san antonio, TX

First I came to this web site and discovered some directions from other customers. I then followed those directions to disassemble the agitator. I removed the softener cup by pulling up on the blue plastic retention ring. I then used a flat head screwdriver to remove the plastic cap by placing the screwdriver into the slot on the side and prying it off. Next I used a 3/8 socket and extension to remove the bolt which holds the agitator to the shaft. After the bolt was removed I pulled up on the agitator and removed it from the washing machine. To remove the upper section of the agitator, I placed it on the ground and holding the base with my feet, I pulled on the upper section. I then removed the dog ears, verifyed the problem and ordered the parts (dog ears). The parts arrived in less time than promised, were installed in about 5 minutes and I was back to doing laundry. When you reassemble the agitator, turn it upside down to install the dog ears so they do not fall out.
