fan was out of balance and rattleing-vibrating
4 of 8 people found this instruction helpful.
  • David from Leonard, TX
  • A Bit Difficult
  • 30 - 60 mins
  • Nutdriver, Wrench set
I pulled the wiring harness off the bad motor, removed the fan blades (it was just a press fit and can be pulled off by hand), took out the three screws. The fan on the replacement motor had to be installed out of the fridge. I wiggled the new motor into place and installed the three screws. I cut the wiring harness off the fridge side an d cut back the insulation. Using wire nuts I reconnected the wiring. I plugged the fridge back in and it worked like a champ.
The repair went fairly easy. The motor was a bit difficult to get into tight space with my big hands. The wiring harness on the fridge side had to be cut and wire nuts used to reconnect the wiring to the new motor but it was pretty straight forward. Over all the repair was easy except for being in a tight spot. I recommend trying to fix it yourself, you may supprise yourself and save some serious bucks on labor cost to boot.

broken shelf stud

I read a previous entry that stated the stud needed to be twisted out, which was very useful. I was bit worried at first when I removed the broken one and a bit of the insulation came out and it seemed mangled inside, but twisting the new one in worked. It is in there firm and strong, good as original.

Refrigerator was freezing up and not cooling fresh food compartment
2 of 3 people found this instruction helpful.
  • Greg from McLoud, OK
  • Easy
  • 30 - 60 mins
  • Nutdriver, Screw drivers
The repair was easy, I removed the cover on the top front of the fresh food compartment. It housed the defrost timer which was easy to identify and replace. Just removed a screw, unplugged the wires and replaced with the new part. Unfortunately, that wasn't the only problem. I also had to replace the defrost element that the timer sen t power to. While I was at it, I replaced the defroster thermostat. The entire repair took under an hour, diagnosing the problem took the most time and effort.

First, after re-reading your descriptions here on your site ( it took clues from each of them) I unplugged the refrigerator and began on the only day my husband was out of town. The two selector knobs came off easily fingers only. The plate came off with only a slight prying with a screwdriver (it is intended to snap off this way). Loo sening the screws and removing them in order to remember which order they returned proved to be a challenge. After disassembly, pulling the thermostat out of the tubing and replacing it with the new one without bending it was hard to do also. The refrigerator runs like new, and may run another eleven years! Thanks!

Turn off power .Remove the control knobs and pry off the front panel ,it just snaps on,Take out two screws holding the control panel Take out the two screws holding the control to the base of the panel to get at the two screws holding the control to the bracket. Ther are screws holding the covers over the thermostat tube. Then pull out the tubbe and remove the plastic cover on the old control and place it on the new control tube. Then route the new tube into the snaps be careful to not make ant sharp bends in tubing. When that is done fasten the control to the bracket and fasten the bracket to the panel.Replace covers over tube to hide it and keep from damaging it when putting things in fridge.. Mount the conrol bracket back to the fridge and replace snap on cover. Plug in electric.
