Please bear in mind I am 65 years old & it was harder to get up & down off the floor then to change the switch. Was very easy - watched video, unplugged unit. I used the putty knife at the right front corner to work loose, when it came loose had to loose the left side a little. The unit pulled out easily. detached the wired that had a ... Read more single plug with 2 prongs on it. Attached the plug, pushed new switch into place. There was no way you could place wires on wrong prong. When done, plugged refrigerator back in & checked if working. I CAN SEE THE LIGHT and the food in the freezer now. Thank you for making an easy repair.

Went to various websites looking for guidance. Finally went to PartSelect since I had previously purchased dryer parts. I entered the model info, etc. from my refrigerator and ordered the ice maker installation kit. The install was fairly easy and everything worked perfectly. I was pleased with the new ice maker and how soon I received it. I was disappointed because there were NO installation instructions that came with it. Read more ne number to call. I called Whirlpool and was informed that they don't provide installation instructions, I said that on the web page is boldly displayed an installation instruction sheet. Whirlpool said that they expect that the installation person knows what they are doing. I let it go and was very careful taking the old one out and installing the new ice maker and the new pump.

I tried to remove the old light switch using a putty knife and a hammer. It was hard to compress the plastic tabs to pull it back through the hole, but all of a sudden, the lights came on. I guess banging on the switch freed-up the contacts. The new switch is now a spare part in case I need it.

I oringinally thought it was one of the thermostats b/c the freezer started to freeze again after unplugging it. But then the next day it stopped all together and I could hear a clicking noise in the back and the compressor never turned on. It would click at around 2 minutes then again about 17 seconds later. I took photos of the origin ... Read more al wires in the connector to match up later. The new parts were not identical to the old. The red wire on the bottom fit fine but the other two wires would not go in the same terminal or numbered positions (1&4). For 2 reasons, 1, the blue female was too small for the male and 2) there was a male missing at position 4. After looking at the guts of the old connector I decided to get new females (2 trips b/c I didn't buy a big enough wire opening - needed 2 wires) and cut, splice & crimp them. I then put the two females on the top two males & plugged it in. No sparks or explosions... but silence. I waited a few minutes and then the fan kicked on and then the compressor started running. That was Sunday, it's now Thursday and things are working well.

Ordered the complete ice maker kit because I wasn't sure which part went bad. I replaced the ice maker assembly first which was very easy to do. I couldn't tell if the new ice maker was doing anything. I waited almost 16 hours before the ice maker started to run and make ice. I would just say to be patient after installing these parts if ... My grandson did all the installing, he is really good at anything he goes to install, needs to look into something for him in this catagory, he said instruction sent was really easy to understand, will order from part select again. Thanks!

Followed the very easy instruction that came with kit. Even a partially trained Monkey could do it with the easy instructions. very satisfied. Had Ice in about an Hour.

followed the video as instructed. Saved two repairman calls, one to find the problem, one to install. Net savings was about $130.00

Took a little while to figure out that I needed a flat tip screwdriver to lift up on the top of the plastic housing in order to tip it forward and remove it. After that I used pliers to remove the wires from the old parts and place them on the new. Removing and replacing the parts was performed by hand.

After receiving the new part almost immediately,using two screw drivers, removed the broken switch from the plastic frame. Be careful not to scratch or otherwise tear the plastic...very pliable. Since the original switch was factory installed and the wires were packed in fiberglass insulation, the switch came out but the wires and clips ... Read more were still in place and could not reach the new switch. It was necessary to pull them down with bent long nose pliers...used a lot of "pull" but the wires held up.Connected the switch, turned the power on and there was light! Reports from other users really took the uncertainty out of the task.

I tried to just replace the cover rather than the whole unit but it was impossible - the cover would not go/stay on. I tried to remove the old unit completely but it would not unplug it was practically fused to the back of the fridge and the liner was cracking. Replaced original ice-maker with the ice-maker from the kit. Operational check was good.
