Old drawer - plastic cracked, and would not run along rails

First, imagine the frustration - I want an apple.... can barely open the drawer. Need carrots - the struggle. Celery? Wondering if I can do without..... the drawer's plastic has broken along where it slides along the guide rails, and it was a pain to open and close the drawer. First, as is my custom I went to Amazon, but couldn't fi nd the part. There, however, I read a useful customer review that told me how to find the correct item, so I did that, input the part number into google, and VOILA - I got to this website. Excitedly, I input my credit card information and waited with eager anticipation (and a bit of trepidation - would it be the correct size?) for the drawer to arrive. A short time later, I found a large box at my front door. With joy, I took some scissors and opened the box, and then carefully used the scissors to cut the binding strap that was holding the protective cardboard wrap. My new drawer!! I gave it a quick clean, and then opened my fridge door all the way (this is an important step). I pulled out the old, broken drawer, and carefully inserted the new. It fit perfectly!! This took about 15 seconds. I then took those apples, carrots, and celery (and a pomegranate and some lettuce) from the old, broken drawer and placed them tenderly into the new drawer. I slid the drawer closed, and then shut the fridge door. Mission accomplished! Last step was to throw the old broken drawer into the garbage - this was a very simple process as well.

The troubleshooting time takes about 20 to 30 minutes. After checking out the solenoid (valve water), the water line, and the electronic board (emitter/receiver) are working fine. The only thing left is the ice module. I called Partselect and talked to a sale rep to make sure I get the right part, and the lady was so helpful by sendind th e picture of the part so I can review before ordering it. I received the part in 3 days ( normal shipping) and did the folowings:
1) Unplugged the power cord from refrigerator.
2) Removed the ice module by removed a 1/4" screw from under the right side of the icemaker that retains the icemaker and a “U” plastic clamp and then pull out the whole unit it from the track.
3) Unplugged the cable connected to the ice maker.
4) Using the phillips screw driver to remove the 3 screws. Carefully pulled out the ice module and installed the new ice module.
5) Put the ice maker back to the freezer, plug the cable back to the ice maker and put the clamp and tighten the nut.
6) Plugged the power cable back to the wall.

The first ice I got in an hour and a full bucket of ice in less than 24 hours. I spent less than $80 for the whole thing. Thank you so much Partselect for the great service and the stories posted, it really helped me to get it done.

The repair consisted of lifting up the drawer cover and replacing it. Why the 60 minutes to do that? It took 58 minutes to clean the refrigerator.

Plastic side-rail cracked. Shelf could no longer support weight on top or in the drawer beneath.

(1) Remove the drawer by pulling it open until it catches. Push up gently on the bottom-rear of the drawer to lift it over the stop tabs in the drawer rail, and pull the drawer out completely. Note: You will need to push the refrigerator door gently to the fully open position to remove the drawer all the way. The door will open about 30 d egrees further than where it comes to rest on its own when opened.
(2) Remove the shelf by lifting gently on the front and sliding it forward. Once the rear corners of the shelf are beyond the upper lip of the shelf rail, you can lift the shelf out of the rail, and turn it vertical to remove through the fridge door. Note: the glass in the shelf is meant to stay in, but if its old or damaged it may tip out when you turn the shelf on its side. So you may want to tape it in place before removing the shelf.
(3) Install the new shelf by repeating step 2 in reverse.
(4) Reinstall the drawer by repeating step 1 in reverse.

The original gasket was breaking down and started to separate. The seal was starting to be compromised..

I ordered two new ones from partselect.com. I figured if I was replacing the one for the refrigerator door I might as well do the freezer door too.
Very easy to take the old ones off, take the putty knife clean tracks out. Putting the new ones on, was a little harder to do. You have to start in the corner and push the gasket into t he slot. You need strong hands to do this. Once I heard them click in, they guided themselves the rest of the way. Once they are on, check to make sure they touch the frame of the door. My freezer was perfect, but the refrigerator had an area of 25 inches that did not touch the frame. I called partselect.com and they sent out another new gasket for the refrigerator door. (I had to pay for this one but was told once I mailed in the defective one, they would credit me the cost of the returned one) I took off the bad gasket and installed the 2nd new gasket and that one was perfect.

Ordered gasket through this site pulled old gasket off, because my conquest had no screws on lining, Put new gasket on top and bottom first and kind of forced the edges into groove using heat gun cause gave me a little problem. But overall, it worked to perfection! Now to buy other gasket for refrigerator door!

Searched my issue on the internet then chose part select to see if bi-metal thermostat was available and it was so I ordered part which was under $30.00 incl. shipping. I then went to You Tube to watch how to replace the part but most importantly to find out where it was located and degree of difficulty. Replacement was rather simple and it fixed our 22 year old fridge. I must add that when I looked up the part it also told you what percent of the time that particular item actually fixed the problem based on others experience. I thought that was neat info. as I felt better about ordering something that may or may not fix my problem. Thank you,

I would suggest loosening the supply lines attached inside the rear. This will give you plenty of slack to disconnect the lines from the housing.

Ice would not dispense from the door
4 of 4 people found this instruction helpful.
  • Jeffrey from Jacksonville, FL
  • A Bit Difficult
  • 30 - 60 mins
  • Pliers, Screw drivers
Removed ice bucket and discovered the auger drum was broken.

After I received the new part, I removed the front screws of the ice bucket, removed the clip that held the auger and other parts together, and then slide each part off the auger until I got to the broken drum.

Assembly was in reverse except you must pay attention where all the spacers and ice crusher bars go back into the original position. This was the most difficult step.

Works great now, crushed and cubed ice dispenses thru the door like new.
