First I removed the ice maker. Second I removed the back panel and overhead panel above ice maker. Third I pulled down the drip trough it had a styrofoam base under it. Read more ch had burn marks on the foil. Fifth I applied the new heater plugged it in and attached the drain hose to the trough. Last I reassembled the unit. Refridgerator works great now and it only cost $45.00 for the heater. The GE repair service quoted over $950.00 and did not list the trough heater as the problem so I would be spending more and would have required several repair visits.

The old part had fallen completely out so I just had to put the new part back into place, it was a bit tight, and you had to twist it into place, but the directions that came with the part really helped. I recommend taking a picture of any part before it is removed. Remove all screws. Use the diagram provided by this site for the dismantle of the ice bucket parts. I replaced the plate and ice auger. Read more the blades off, I realized that I should have probably replaced a couple of them as well. Next time I decide to repair an item, I will totally inspect all parts before ordering. Order was shipped immediately. Postal Carrier showed me why he dropped off at another location which caused a delay of a couple of days. Not the senders problem. I had a hard time remembering just how the rod on the side was suppose to fit. I should have taken a picture. (laughing) I finally figured it out. My ice maker is as good as new. So happy I did this. My husband always says: " Just get a new refrigerator." I was raised to fix things until they just die. He was so impressed that I was able to follow the diagram and re-install the ice bucket. All is great. I will use this site again. They are a great company. I am sure I saved hundreds of dollars for a repairman who would have replaced the whole unit and not taken the time for the repair and replacement of parts. This was just "as easy as pie".

After gaining access thto the Evaporator Coil, lots of disassembly, I was able to cut the foam (Heater Trough) and remove it first (in pieces). I still have to verify whether the Defrost Timer is working properly, but the unit is coolingto proper temperatures (Freezer and Refrigerator).

Removed screws that held crusher to metal plate, making note of how unit came apart. Replaced Ice bucket auger and front and rear helix. I had to also order bushing/nut that screws to end of auger as the threads on mine were stripped out . Read more t view it would have been trial and error in their proper assembly as I had forgotten ( because from 1st parts reciept and second parts reciept being about a week) how they came out. After assembly, with no left over parts I might add, I installed unit in to freezer and it works like new.

removed old parts and installed new. went smooth

Disassembled front door/cover (3 screws), then removed deflection door assy, (4 1/4" nuts), CArefully and methodically removed C Clip and grinder teeth...Be careful with this step to document/remeber how to re-assemble! Auger repleced then reverse steps...
All in all, not too bad, but you can easily screw up the teeth re-assembly.

We have an older model refrigerator and thought it would be impossible to find a replacement ice bucket for the freezer. Not only did you have the exact part but it came unbelieveably fast. I would use your website again!

Found broken pieces of deflector in delivered ice. Removed dispenser, carefully disassembled it, marking fasteners, sprimgs, and levers. Took unit apart but did not take photos of how to put unit back together, so needless to say it took longer then it should have. My error. Ordering the part was very easy and within days the part arrived at my door. Should the need arise, I would order again from Part Select.com.

you must pay careful attention when taking the dispenser apart,especially the long rod that controls the deflector,but if close attention is payed to disassembly you should have no problem.

Disassembled ice-maker, noting what screws went where, what direction ice release control arm pointed, and noting how the control arm spring was mounted. The door assembly comes off first followed by the circular assembly that houses the ice door and last grinding arms. It is quite easy see how it comes apart as you look at the screws. ... Read more Remove the screw holding the back end of the control arm and note the spring position. The control arm needs to be turned to line up notches to pull it thru a faceplate hole while rotating the arm about the "U" that is on the outside of the faceplate in the door housing. There is a retaining clip holding the rotating impeller to remove to complete the dis-assembly. Use vinegar to clean rust out of bin and other parts around the faceplate. Assemble the unit in the reverse order to complete the job.

1. The fill tube assembly is located on the left side of the compressor compartment on top of the refrigerator toward the back of the unit.
2. Remove the front grill from the compressor section and turn off power to the refrigerator.
3. In the freezer section, remove the ice maker cover, ice holding/feed tray, and the ice maker ... Read more assembly.
4. It was necessary to use a small hair dryer to unfreeze ice inside and around the fill tube so that the fill tube could be pulled down from the grommet.
5. The grommet, which is located on top of the freezer unit next to the compressor, having been in place for many years, was difficult to remove both because of the difficulty of reaching the grommet in the narrow space between the compressor housing and the outside body of the refrigerator and the grommet fitting so snugly into the mounting hole.
6. To remove the grommet, I carefully used a set of small plastic pry tools (available at an auto parts or hardware store) to slowly unseat the grommet from the refrigerator and then used a twisting motion while pulling up on the grommet to remove it from the housing.
7. Clean around the hole in the freezer housing carefully.
8. For my model refrigerator, the new grommet piece is slightly longer than the original piece, and while the original fill tube is plastic, the replacement fill tube is made from metal and is slightly longer than the original fill tube.
9. Due to the different sizes of the new parts, it was necessary to shorten the length of the new grommet so that it would seat properly into the hole in the compartment. I also had to reuse the old plastic fill tube so that the fill tube would properly fit inside the ice maker assembly. It is probably possible to trim the metal fill tube with an appropriate cutting tool if the old tube cannot be reused.
10. If you are going to trim the new unit, carefully measure the old grommet and trim the new grommet to match the size of the original, then insert the new grommet into the hole in the upper cabinet section. The fill tube can than be inserted into the grommet from inside the freezer compartment by sliding the fill tube into the hold inside the freezer compartment and seating it by feel into the grommet. However it is also apparently possible to fit the fill tube into the grommet first and then insert the fill tube and grommet from the top of the refrigerator where the hold inside the compressor space is located.
11. If replacing the poly tubing between the water valve assembly and the grommet (a good idea if the tubing is old), it is simpler to attach new poly tubing into the grommet before placing the grommet into the mounting hole. A small hose clamp can be used as well to secure the tubing in the grommet attachment point.
12. Mount the ice maker in the freezer compartment making sure the fill tube sits inside the plastic piece at the back of the ice maker that collects the water from the fill tube.
13. Replace the ice collection/feed component.
14. Replace the ice maker cover.
15. Turn on the unit and test the ice maker to ensure there are no leaks in the new parts.
