Having tried PartSelect.com before, I was very comfortable with the process. Input my symptoms and the feed back I received was that one of the 2 things (Defrost Timer or Defrost Thermostat)might need replacement. Since the cost was not much and over night shipping would cost more than the product, I decided to order both the parts. Chang ing parts was a breeze. The instructions posted by others on your web site were very easy to follow. You guys save me a bundle every time I have any thing going worng with any of my appliances.

ice machine was now working correctly
2 of 3 people found this instruction helpful.
  • colleen from salt lake city, UT
  • A Bit Difficult
  • 30 - 60 mins
  • Socket set, Wrench (Adjustable)
watched the video (VERY helpful) and then removed the old icemaker and replaced it with the new one. Difficult only because of the small working space in the side by side freezer plus you can't see what you're doing when you tighten the screws. Working like a charm now.

Frost in freezer, fridge not cold

From most posts I've read, the defrost timer was the culprit so I blindly ordered one. Easy install but did not fix the problem so I broke out the ohm meter. The only other 2 items it could be all tested good with my meter so I bypassed the defrost thermostat (per forum help...actually quite easy)and it defrosted fine, which told me I nee ded a new defrost thermostat. Installed fairly easy and problem gone.

Ice maker wasn't making ice

Occasionally, we'd get one batch of ice cubes and a frozen lake of water in the bottom of the ice tray.

The installation was easy and I won't bother duplicating the comments of others who have installed this part.

One word of caution: The ice maker contains a heating element on the bottom. That element is apparentl y live even when the ice bar is in the upper (off) position. When I unscrewed the old ice maker and went to lift it off the bolts, I severely burned my finger on the bottom of the old ice maker because apparently I started the repair in the middle of the heating cycle.

I highly recommend that you unplug the ice maker entirely before doing the replacement and gingerly ensure that the unit isn't hot before touching it. You'll save yourself a nasty burn.

After determining the ice maker was getting water but not harvesting the ice, I ordered a replacement Ice Maker. Installation was easy. One electrical connection and two screws. Following the video to make sure I did not miss any steps I had ice in just a few hours. Just in time for a July heat wave!

Based on the website I decided it was most probably the defrost timer, and that was correct. I ordered it, watched the video, and two days later the part was at my door. Took the nut driver, removed 4 screws, then removed the old defrost timer, installed the new one, re-installed the whole plastic assembly with the four screws, and done !!! Couldn't have been easier.

Ice Maker not producing / Clicking / Off-cycle

We love our ice here. I seem to replace the ice makers one to two times a year. Generally the ice cycle gets off for some reason and it starts making loud popping/clicking noises (gear grinding). Its easy to replace. Simply loosen two screws holding the unit to inside of freezer and disconnecting the wiring harness. Unit slide up and out. Replacement is super easy (5 mins or less). Bam! Ice!

The refrigerator light would not work ...even after replacing the bulb.

I used a flat head screwdriver to pry open the front of the socket as I pushed the socket toward the freezer side. I unplugged the two wires connected to the socket then re-connected the two wires to the new socket and popped the new socket back in. I then put a new light bulb in and we had light again in the fridge.

Needed to replace ice maker which had been making clicking noises as ice got jammed and then stopped working altogether.

Followed the instructions that came with replacement ice maker...was very clear and easy to follow and only took 5 minutes. I also watched the video sent via email with my order confirmation which was very well done and easy to follow. The only information that would have helped would have been a note to wait over-night for the ice maker to make ice as I thought I did something wrong when it wasn't making ice right away....waited until morning and had lots of ice. If I knew how straight forward and easy this was, I would have done it a lot sooner.
