Made of flexible plastic, it measures 2 inches by 4 inches. Oil stains or leaks around the valve cover indicate a problem with the gasket. You may also notice a burning smell or ticking noise from the engine. If the gasket is not replaced, it can lead to severe engine damage and even engine failure. When replacing the gasket, start by turning off your machine and disconnecting the spark plug. Depending on your equipment model and make, you may need to remove components like the air filter or spark plug wires to access the valve cover. Refer to your user manual for guidance. Once you have access to the valve cover, use a wrench or socket to unthread the securing bolts or screws. Then, carefully peel off the old gasket.
