I used a flat-head screwdriver to pop out the old light rocker switch. Then, I unplugged the wires, plugged them into the new light rocker switch, and then popped the new switch into the hole. That's it! Lights began working again.

Cracked door handle
35 of 35 people found this instruction helpful.
  • Laura from Austin, TX
  • Really Easy
  • Less than 15 mins
  • Screw drivers
I removed the screws holding the old, cracked handle in place, and used the same screws to affix the new handle, which fit perfectly. The whole job, including a bit of cleaning to remove the scuzz that had built up around the top and bottom of the handle over 13 years' time, took about 5 minutes. Note: the screw at the bottom is covered b y a small plastic tab (easily removed by prying, gently, with a screwdriver), which doesn't come with the new handle, so if covering the screw matters to you, don't break or lose the old one!

The Door Would Not Close All The Way
38 of 47 people found this instruction helpful.
  • Solomon from Irving, TX
  • A Bit Difficult
  • 30 - 60 mins
  • Nutdriver
Bought a replacement gasket for the Refrigerator to solve the leaking air problem. After replacing the gasket, nothing changed, so it appears the problem is the door itself, so if you have a separation between in the gasket, be sure it's the gasket and not the door itself.

Light Switch broke
48 of 78 people found this instruction helpful.
  • James Richard from St. Cloud, MN
  • Easy
  • Less than 15 mins
  • Socket set
An easy job for smaller hands. Removed the two bolts holding the light cover. Removed two electrical connections from the old switch by pinching the retaining clip, removed the switch, snapped in the new one and re-attached the connectors. Your online illustrations helped me to know that the plastic housing for the light switch would only swing down so far and was not intended to be removed. Saved me from breaking that plastic cover's tabs. This home repair saved me more than 5 times the cost of hiring a professional to do it. Very happy homeowner.

Faulty Refirgerator door Gasket (Leaking)
28 of 30 people found this instruction helpful.
  • Robert from Woodstock, IL
  • A Bit Difficult
  • 30 - 60 mins
  • Nutdriver
First I went on line and found detailed instructions how to do it. I also covered the frig with a large piece of card board to keep the "cool" in to some degree. I put the new gasket in a tub of hot water. I unloaded the door. Loosed all the screws..pulled off old gasket/seal.... carefully put the new one on the door. This was tedious but okay. then I tightend the screws. Closed teh door...made adjustments ..leveled the refrigerator... checked for leaks by putting a flashlight in the frig and closing the door. I also used a dryer to help the seal form easier. awesome! Like a new refrigerator.

Once I saw the replacement part I understood how to pry out the switch with a small screwdriver. Then just unplug the old one, plug in the new one and pop it into place.

The PartSelect site made it easy to correctly identify the correct part, it was inexpensive, and the shipping was fast.

I'm very pleased!

Door seal gasket was torn and needed replacement.
15 of 15 people found this instruction helpful.
  • William from Brooklyn, OH
  • A Bit Difficult
  • 30 - 60 mins
  • Nutdriver, Screw drivers
First I read other repair stories which really helped. I decided to leave the door on and use a 1/4" nutdriver plus a flat blade screwdriver. I loosed the screws on one side at a time. I pulled off the old seal and replaced with the new, using the flat blade to help tuck the seal in as needed. I also had to use a hair dryer to soften the new seal at some places in order to form it properly. Overall, I had great success!

Left front plastic wheel was broken
12 of 16 people found this instruction helpful.
  • mike from holly springs, NC
  • Really Easy
  • 30 - 60 mins
  • Nutdriver, Pliers, Screw drivers
Pop loose the plastic grate at the bottom.

Locate and remove the wheel leveling screw from the front bottom corner.

Remove cotter pin from the pin that mounts the wheel assembly to the refrigerator. Tap out the mounting pin.

Lift out the wheel assembly.

Remove the Roller pin from the wheel asse mbly. I used a Dremel tool with a cutting disk. A hack saw will also probably work.

Install the new roller pin and wheel into the wheel assembly. Use a hammer or vice to peen over the end of the roller pin.

Reinstall and adjust wheel assembly.

Gasket was damaged
10 of 11 people found this instruction helpful.
  • WILLIAM from VERONA, WI
  • Easy
  • 30 - 60 mins
  • Nutdriver
I removed everything from the door, and unscrewed all of the nuts. I left the door on the refrigerator, mainly because I didn't think I needed to remove it. The gasket can be put on with the door attached, but I can see where it would be easier to take the whole door off. It would be easier to position the gasket laying down. All in a ll, the repair went fine and the door seals much better.

1. I removed all screws holding the old gasket.

2. I removed the old gasket.

3. I removed and unfolded the new gasket from the shipping package.

4. I used a hair dryer to heat and straighten the gasket.

5. I installed the new gasket and secured it with the screws.

6. Some gasket defor mation still remained, so I used the hair dryer again the next day to heat the gasket. Adding a small piece of cardboard behind
the gasket also helped to restore the gasket shape.

Inserted the glass shelf into position - very easy. Replaced the broken door handle. Note - the screws that held the handle in place and a plastic insert that covered the screws were not included with the repair parts. Fortunately, I had kept the old ones. Otherwise, the repair was very easy.
