Cut the line inside the regiferator behind the bin and used the tube union to attach new 5/16" tubing to run to the solenoid valve assy in the back of the refigerator. Location of the valve assy makes connecting very difficult. But was able to complete repairs.

Ice maker discharge was slow and jammed with ice and frost. The cause was a distorted flapper that did not seal properly, admitting warm air into the dispenser chamber.

Excellent video was available on the Parts Select website. It was simple. The selector panel pulled out by hand from the bottom. The subpanel was removed with the four screws. The flapper snapped out of the holder with two clips. The new one was inserted in reverse order.

Leaky valve

I looked at the photos of the valves posted on the PartSelect website and selected what I thought was the right one. It came in the mail within a couple of days and it was not the right one ... the electrical connectors were very slightly different. I went back online and determined that I had better telephone the service number as ther e were four valves that, upon further inspection, looked pretty much the same ... and it's good that I did! The service guy looked up my refrigerator model number and told me I needed part XYW even though I thought part KLM looked more like the old valve. The part came the next day - amazing shipping time - and I installed the new valve and life is good!

Ice maker only dispensed crushed ice.
1 of 3 people found this instruction helpful.
  • Richard from THE VILLAGES, FL
  • Really Easy

  • Nutdriver, Screw drivers
Determined that the little door that opens to allow full size cubes to fall was not opening. If you open freezer door, hold door switch in, select cubes and push in the lever that the glass pushes in you should hear the solenoid lift open which opens the little door. Mine was doing nothing. Removed ice bin and then removed icemaker motor /solenoid section from back of freezer by disconnecting two wire harnesses and one screw. Found that solenoid smelled burnt and could see that inside of the solenoid was swollen out of round and burnt. Simple to replace.

Ice chute from the ice maker frosted over. Cubes would not dispense

1. Unplug the fridge
2. Removed the outer facing of the dispenser outside the freezer door. This is fairly easy, better with a tool (plastic scraper) that won't mar the finish.
3. Removed the plastic plate with labels -- water, ice, etc. This is done by sliding a small jewelers screwdriver into the slots on the left, middle and right in back of the plate. These are difficult to see without a flashlight.
4. Removed the four screws in the panel behind this plate.
5. Unpluged the large cable on the left side after the panel is freed.
5. Removed the rubber "dispenser" button. this just pulls off.
6. Remove the panel
7. Lift flapper up and remove. Clips hold this in.
8. Put new flapper in place.
9. Use reverse order to put back together.
Piece of cake. Ice maker no longer frosts up.!!!!

Transferred ice supply to another freezer. Removed ice maker unit from freezer and studied assembly. Removed the 5 screws holding the bucket in place while keeping track of which screw went where. The only positional component to remember was the motor control pivot retainer. Wiggled and fiddled to remove the old bucket. Wiggled and fiddl ed to put the new bucket in place. Replaced the 5 screws, dumped the reserved ice back into the bucket, and returned the ice maker unit to the freezer.
