Originally problem was excessive running and defrost timer would hang up when it got to the defrost position. Ordered new timer from PartSelect, but decided to open up the freezer cavity to see if there was excessive frost...found none. Checked defrost heater elements and they check out (25k ohms). Defrost thermostat seems ok using some icecubes while monitoring resistance. All fans are operating properly.
Installed replacement defrost timer, reassembled freezer compartment and plugged it in. Careful monitoring of defrost timer show the timer, as expected, moving until it gets to the DEFROST position and just sits there. Once I move the timer OFF of the defrost position, timer once again moves on. This is the original problem with previous timer. WHY?
Hi Gerry,
Thank you for your question. If you are having an issue with the defrost timer and the refrigerator is running too long, make sure that the fresh food and freezer sections are set to the correct temperature. We would also recommend checking the sealed system, the condenser fan motor, the evaporator fan motor and the door gaskets. We have included a link from our website that you may reference on how to check these parts. Once you have determined the part you need, please call customer service. We look forward to hearing from you!

The old part had fallen completely out so I just had to put the new part back into place, it was a bit tight, and you had to twist it into place, but the directions that came with the part really helped. It took me longer then it should have as I could not fit my hand up into the chute very easily. Once I figured out the layout of the

I recommend taking a picture of any part before it is removed. Remove all screws. Use the diagram provided by this site for the dismantle of the ice bucket parts. I replaced the plate and ice auger. I found that my rusted screws for the plate would not fit the new plate, so I bought replacement screws at Home Depot. After I got all
... Read morethe blades off, I realized that I should have probably replaced a couple of them as well. Next time I decide to repair an item, I will totally inspect all parts before ordering. Order was shipped immediately. Postal Carrier showed me why he dropped off at another location which caused a delay of a couple of days. Not the senders problem. I had a hard time remembering just how the rod on the side was suppose to fit. I should have taken a picture. (laughing) I finally figured it out. My ice maker is as good as new. So happy I did this. My husband always says: " Just get a new refrigerator." I was raised to fix things until they just die. He was so impressed that I was able to follow the diagram and re-install the ice bucket. All is great. I will use this site again. They are a great company. I am sure I saved hundreds of dollars for a repairman who would have replaced the whole unit and not taken the time for the repair and replacement of parts. This was just "as easy as pie".
