Removed the back panel from the lower part of the fridge to expose the valves and motor. Then the one screw holding the valve/bracket assembly was removed to free the assy. It took a few minutes to figure out how to remove the water lines - popped the colored plastic rings out with a screwdriver and removed the lines. Inserted the line

After trying to reconnect a flexible hose to the water valve several times I stripped the connection to the water valve, causing it to have a slow leak.
Twice I tried to have an appliance parts store order the part without success. (I even brought them the part from the refrigerator to show them how it looked. ) they ordere ... Read more d the wrong part two times and then said they could not figure out what part I needed.
Finally my wife and I went on line, keyed in the model number and searched for parts of the refrigerator related to the ice maker. We saw the correct part and ordered it ourselves.
It was a success. I changed the part within 30 minutes and the ice maker has been working ever since. I would search and find a part on my own again before trusting someone who supposedly sold parts as their business.

I used pliers to pull lightly on the head of the switch, while I inserted a small flat head screw driver into the base of switch and gently worked around the edges to free it from the panel.

I had looked at videos on you tube,it looked simple enough. I mostly do my own repairs so I gave it a shot. the job went well,if you do not fix things around the house don't try to do the repair, find a handyman in your neighborhood to help you out, cheaper than calling a refrigeration man. It is not that hard to do.

Was concerned that new icemaker was quite a bit different than the one we were replacing. Called GE to confirm it was correct.
Went ahead and installed the unit, using the supplied electric cable adapter.
A little difficult to deal with the extra cable, but everything worked OK and it's making ice normally.

Removed the ice bucket and removed the screw at the rear of the broken shelf. The front hole had a pop rivet in it, so I got a small angle motor with a 5/32 drill in it and drilled the center of the rivet out then removed the rivet. Replaced the shelf and screwed the rear screw in and replaced the front rivet with a #8 screw.
