Oven does not heat

Daughter and family came to visit Gramps for the weekend; Saturday morning, arose and opened a couple of cans of grand buscuits. Set aside to let rise then turned oven on to preheat. Came back later and oven did not work. Stove top worked, broiler worked, but no oven. What to do, didn't want to waste dough; perhaps salvage for dumplings, no; make poorboy doughnuts, no; Aha, lets use the outside gas grill, never done it, worth the try, remember old camping days except using gas. Worked like a charm, crisis over. Now back to oven. Since everything worked except the oven burner problem could be in the igniter, or oven control. Removed covers to burner assembly, pulled igniter, checked for continuity across the two leads. No go. Wait, need to check oven control, placed voltmeter across incomming leads, turned oven controls on and had voltage. Conclusion, igniter bad. Also noticed a small rust hole in the burner tube next to igniter, not good. Went on-line to PartsSelect, entered make and model number. No model but gave choice close to model. Viewed pictures, found one that came close. Placed order. Parts came in a very short time. Matched new parts to old. perfect. Removed burner tube and installed new one, one screw, simple. Wire nut the incomming leads to igniter and install, three screws, simple. Turned oven on, igniter glows bright, gas comes on, good blue flame, no need to adjust air inlet vents on burner tube. Turned off oven, replaced covers, then turned on oven, baked cornbread and enjoyed. Thanks, back in business. Dave

Broiler inoperative

For the third time in less than a year I had to replace the broiler igniter. The range is 27 years old and has given us excellent service. When the igniter failed it's replacement lasted 3 months. The next replacement lasted about 6 months. This last replacement has been in service about 1 week. We shall see. The last one had an open wire within the ceramic mould. There was continuity from one wire, through the black portion, but not to the second wire. It seems like it was a fault in manufacturing.

Although this was not a repair I wanted to let you know your service was outstanding and the price quite reasonable. I am very happy to finally have a much needed second rack in my oven that was not there when I purchased my home. Thank You

Took the pan out of the bottom of the oven. Took the screws out of the assembly for the iron, disconnect the power wires under the stove and pull out the old iron. Reverse the proceedure but be careful with the new iron, it is very fragile. Connect the wires put the screws back and you are done. Make sure before you start the job that yo u unplug the appliance !!!!

My Maytag Microwave UMC5100AD was suddenly broken in 1 second when I heated food last time. Then no clock, etc, seem the fuse broken. to fix it, the most difficult part was how to remove it from the wall trim. Finally got it out. Then went HomeDepot to get the same fuse, replaced and used it, burned again. Then I searched online and ppl s aid the capacitor might be the one. I took it out and measured it, yeah it indeed was a problem since it's not open. Then I order the capacitor from PartSelect about $32. After 3 days I got it and installed it. Done. Sure need to put the Microwave back to wall trim. That's it. Saved about $500 buck if I buy a new one plus labor to install it. Thanks

The microwave would blow the fuse immediately when trying to use.

I replaced the large capacitor (.95 uf). Much of the shell (casing) has to be removed and the capacitor is hard to get to. It is housed in a very inconvenient place. Because of the unfamiliarity of how to access the capacitor it took about an hour to get to it. After receiving the new capacitor it only took about half an hour to install i t, re-assemble the microwave, and re-install under the cabinet. Of course a new fuse was required.

Racks would fall off of the tracks when the broiler was used
1 of 2 people found this instruction helpful.
  • Andrew from Neptune, NJ
  • Very Difficult

I ordered new racks to see if they weere out of alignment. The new racks fell from its tracks after the broiler was heated. It seems the oven cabinet is expanding with the heat and the rack width does not compensate for that. The new racks did not solve the problem so I do not know what can be done next. Any shelf support would have to be heat resistent. Replacing the oven cabinet is not a good option and no gauantee it wouldn't continue with this stove.

Broken hinge on oven door
4 of 11 people found this instruction helpful.
  • Robert from Morgan Hill, CA
  • A Bit Difficult
  • 1- 2 hours
  • Nutdriver, Screw drivers
I ordered the part and it was at my door in 2 days. I ordered the part on Wednesday thinking I would install it on the weekend after next. The part showed up on Friday. That was amazing considering I didn't sellect expeidited delivery. I didn't have a manual and have never tried this before so grade my attempt on a curve please. I started by unscrewing the screws closest to the hinge but quickly migrated to the entire face of the range. Pulled the range out and started unscrewing the screws on the side, and then the back. Figuring nothing was coming off and I still couldn't get to the hinge I stopped and regrouped. That's when my wife asked if she could help. I guess I looked distressed. By this time I had removed the drawer and had the range on it's back in the middle of the kitchen with little bowls of screws everywhere. My wife picked up the new hinge and looked it over. Then she started playing with the old hinge which was loose, but I couldn't get it out. She realized that you can remove the old hinge and install the new hinge without taking the whole thing apart. Where was she 30 minutes ago? The hinges came out and the new ones went it in about 10 minutes. It took me another 20 minutes to put back all of the screws I had taken off unnecessarily. Sometimes use your brains instead of a screwdriver. I have the best wife ever!
