Came home to thawed freezer. Light works no sound or anything. There is what looks like a little reset button, tried pushing it nothing happened (front lower left corner, looking into the freezer). Turned machine off will turn back on in a little while to see if any thing happens. Any idea on what’s going on?
Hello Rebecca, thank you for your question. When you are having temperature problems in your freezer, there are a few parts that could cause the issue. You can use a multi meter to test most of the parts. Make sure you cut power to your appliance before doing any repairs or tests. First you should test your temperature control thermostat, part number: PS12365300. When your thermostat is cold, it should produce a reading of zero on your multimeter. If it is warm (anywhere from forty to ninety degrees Fahrenheit), then this test should produce a reading of infinity. Another part to check would be your defrost timer, part number: PS12585793. Testing the first pair of terminals should produce a reading of zero, or near zero, denoting continuity. The second pair may also result in a reading of zero or near zero. Testing the third pair of terminals should produce a reading of infinity. Find your refrigerator's timer switch and turn it in a clockwise motion until it clicks. Use your multi meter and test the terminals again in the same manner as in the preceding paragraph. In this test, one of the pairs of terminals should produce a reading of continuity. At least one pair, but maybe two, should produce a reading of infinity. One important note to keep in mind is that a pair of terminals that demonstrated continuity in the first test should now demonstrate infinity. Likewise, a pair of terminals that demonstrated infinity in the first test should now demonstrate continuity. You could also check your evaporator fan motor part number: PS2349477. Your freezer will have a switch that is pressed by the door itself as it closes. As the door opens, the switch depresses, turning on the light and turning off the evaporator fan motor. Press and hold the switch for a minute. The freezer light should turn off and the evaporator fan should kick on after a few seconds. If it turns on, you should be able to clearly hear the electric motor activate and then a low hum from the fan spinning. If the fan motor does not turn on while you hold the switch, the motor is probably bad. These are the most common parts that cause this issue in your appliance. So, it is suggested you check them first. I hope that helps. Good luck with your repair.
my defrost drains aways freezes up so water doesn't drain to pan, just keeps building up on bottom of freezer? I can melt it and after a couple months I see ice on bottom of freeze.

After getting wiring diagram off internet it was diagnosed as freezer stuck in defrost mode, temp alarm on, but fan running.

Turned gray knob on defrost timer (located bottom left back of freezer) past defrost position to verify compressor would run...it would not, but fan would run. Tested run capacitor...found borderline defective (weak, wrong value ohm meter kick). Just to be sure, removed interior shelves and interior rear and gasket to check heater at 20
... Read moreohms as OK and removed thermostat and verified contact closure after exposure in another freezer....re-installed, hooked heater back up and re-installed interior rear panel. Replaced defrost timer by unplugging 4-pin connector, then removed 2 screws that hold it to the bracket. Installed new one in reverse order. Then removed wire bail holding run capacitor to compressor plug assembly, removed run capacitor, plugged in new one. Turned on freezer......now making ice and holding cold temperature and cycling properly between freeze and defrost modes. Two problems made this repair a bit more difficult. This is the second time that defrost timer has failed...only got 3 years from last one.

I unplugged the freezer, unload items in freezer. took out shelves and baskets, Pulled off the control knob then removed all screws. removed inside panel, replaced part exactly as I took out old part. Put the panel back on, put everything back in place. Plugged freezer back in and turned the knob to 3. Let freezer run for a day
