KHMS15 KitchenAid Microwave - Instructions

My husband unscrewed the three screws on the end of the door, popped the exterior door off and removed the old door handle to save the screws. He then attached the new handle to the new exterior door. He snapped it into place and replaced the 3 screws at the end of the door! NOW IT IS JUST LIKE NEW! Just a matter of minutes.

Remove the two screws to the plastic vent strip at the top of the unit. That exposes a metal cover (upper right) held in place by two more screws. (Found that removing the screw holding the key panel in place and moving that out of the way made for more work room) Remove the metal cover. The HV diode (visible) on one end is secured to the ... Read more chassis by a screw. The other end is fitted to the HV capacitor. So unscrew one end and pull the HV diode off the capacitor. The replacement fits on like the old one came off. Very simple repair. But it would be safe to short the capacitor terminals to the chassis first. Noticed that it appeared the sparking was caused by the HV diode's outer casing being worn by the asbestos covered wire next to it and laying against it. I made sure the two were not touching, before putting the covers back on. Also, the problem started with an occasional spark when the MW started. It quickly deteriorated to a full, non-stop electrical sparking. You can hear it, smell it, and see it through the top vent. You don't need to remove unit to work on it.

Very easy and fast. I wished that I could just replace the panel door instead of cleaning it everytime. It was easier and quicker to replace the door than it was to clean it.

The old grill had already been removed so the new one fit right in and it was only a matter of tightening the 2 screws to hold the new one in place. Simple. Looks great. No one will ever know it was broken.

I read previous hints on how to replace. All suggested using tile wedges removing the inner locking piece which would likely result in some broken tabs. Read more r skin and both the inner piece and the glass section came out together. Access to the screws attaching the handle were accessible. With the screws out, the inner piece can fall off, remove it, replace the handle and the inner piece re attaches with no breakage.

Take off top facing over microwave using screwdriver also protection plate for diode and capaitor. Disconnect diode from frame, bracket to capacitor then remove, disconnect wires leaving diode on capacitor for right connection, replace, rewire done.

Looked up symptoms on parts select website. Ordered mag and diode. Very easy to take micro off the wall. Easily removed screws holding the skin on. Found diode. Read more IODE TO TOUCH THE GROUNDING POLE IS THE SCREW DOWN LEAD. IF THE OPPOSITE END LEAD, THAT WHICH IS THE PUSH ON TERMINAL, TOUCHES THE GROUNDING POLE, YOU'LL GET ARCHY SPARKY. The magnetron goes in very easy. Simply pay attention to how you removed it and reverse that process installing the new one. There are easy to use YouTube videos that show magnetron replacement. You can do this easily and save your microwave and $$ while doing so.

Remove 2 screws on top of the unit holding the grille in- remove the grille
Remove the one screw at the top of the display and tilt the top of the display towards you.

Read more attached to a black connector about 2/3 of the way up the circuit board- to release the ribbon cable the highest end of the connector has a plastic release clip that you can bend with your fingernail allowing the long edge of the connector topivot about the (lower) hinged end. Not hard to do just don't force it.
Do not remove any wires-remove the screws holding the circuit board on (2 I think) at the bottom.
The top of the circuit board is held in by sheet metal features in the housing- mine were a bit tough but its obvious how to remove it.
The keypad/exterior sheet metal & display assembly should be free now- support and place display up on a work surface.
To remove the current keypad CAREFULLY pry around the edge/junction of the ext sheet metal and the keypad. The keypad is held on with adhesive and will require some effort. Also the keypad extends slightly under the ext shett metal so it will be a pain. the goal is to start it peeling w/o damaging the sheet metal around it.
To remove the remaining adhesive (& paper) use denatured alcohol.
The new keypad is made to go under the ext sheet metal but it isn't possible to install it this way. I trimmed the edges of the new keypad so that it would drop in. You only get one try installing the keypad so make sure it fits before putting it in with the adhesive exposed.

Very simple, just removed the screws and plates from the top of the microwave and reused the screws to secure the new piece.

Remove “over the stove” unit. Remove unit shell case. Unscrew and disconnect diode. Replace diode. Re-assemble. Put unit back in place.

Cracked panel door cover

Really easy I just replace the panel door. It was easier and quicker to replace the door than it was to clean it.

Loosened but did not remove screws that held up microwave over range,removed grill on top by loosening screws that held grill in place.removed small mesh grill on right side of microwave, this gave me access to capacitor ,diode is connected from one lead of capacitor to a metal plate ground,Disccarged capacitor to ground by shorting ter ... Read more minals to ground using a thick insulated screwdriver.Since the diode was screwed to the top of the metal plate I cut it out with a pair of side cutters .I then connected the new diode to the capacitor with my long nose pliers and groonded the other end to a more accessible part of the metal grounding plate.I then replaced all parts in reverse order.Works like a charm.

Part came in 24 hrs w/ no special "fast shipping requested" . Old door pried off fairly easily using a stiff but thin butter knife. Putting new door on was easy but only with 2 people: one person holding the handle side open and the other handling the new door. Fit the new door on the hinge side first and slowly push top and bottom ed ... Read more ges inward until clicks are heard as the individual hooks engage the frame. When done, go back along each top and bottom edge to be sure all hooks are engaged and no gaps occur btwn door and frame. Trying to do it alone with no one holding the door open and steady would have been difficult.
