This is a known defect with KitchenAid ovens. If your range is out of warranty, KitchenAid will do nothing to help. (They should really issue a recall). I figured out through research that the part is the thermostat fuse, so instead of paying a repair company to come to the house, diagnose the problem and do the repair, I ordered the part

on PartSelect.com. I probably saved myself $200. My husband did the repair and said it was really easy. It took him 10 - 15 minutes. He took a picture of the back of the oven with the back panel off, showing where the part is located, but looks like I'm not able upload images. All you need is to be able to pull your range out to get to the back of it and a screwdriver to remove some screws and replace the thermostat. Once the part was replaced, the control panel came back on, the oven unlocked and is now working again!! I will not use Self-Clean again - that is for sure!

The bottom burner would not stay lit. I determined that it was as a result of the ignitor's voltage droping. The thing still glowed red but apparently the voltage drops and closes the gas valve. So, I switched the broiler one with the bottom one to see if it would work. It did. Then I bought the new ignitor and put it in where I had t

aken the broiler ignitor out. You have to take care to put the insulation back and shove the connector well into the hole so that there is no possibllity of it melting. I also replaced the oven top. I had bought that part a couple of years ago because I had dropped some things on it and it was chipped. When I got the top I thought it would be somewhat intuitive as to how to replace it. But, it wasn't. So,it stayed in its box. When I had the other problem I decided to tackle the top too. First turn off the gas and unplug the oven. You have to pry the top off with a screw driver. Then, you disconnect wires which run to the ignitor for each burner. You also have to disconnect the gas lines running to each dial. Now, you take the top off. To get the burners off the top you have to take a pair of channel locks and open them wide, wrap a rag around the burner and turn them like screws. Under the top there is an assembly that holds the gas lines in place. that has to be removed from under each buner. These assemblies are not interchangeable!!! One is left and the other is right. You then reverse everything. Put the burners in by screwing them down. Its hard but if you put a rag over them you can strike them with a rubber mallet. Screw the gas line assemblies into the bottom of the top. Then hook up the wires and then the gas lines. Then, you pop the top back in. There are those pressure clamps that hold the top down. I made a mistake with the gas line assemblies and switched them. So, when I tested the repair I realized I had the front dial controlling the rear burners and vice versa. Some day I take it all apart and fix it again!

The thermostat blew during the oven self-cleaning cycle (apparently it's a common problem). Take off a few panels in the back of the range with a screw driver. Pull the terminals off the existing thermostat and (safely) touch them to make sure it's not some other problem. If the oven comes back to life order this part. Unscrew the blo

I called the place that I ordered the range from and set up a repair date. The repairman came out and diagnosed the problem and had to order the part (Valve). I noticed on the repair ticket the cost of $172.00. I checked out this site and found it a whole lot cheaper. I called the repairman and advised that I found the part cheaper and ex

Shut off gas valve & disconnect flex pipe at both ends. Remove adapter at stove end of flex pipe and re-use. Unplug from wall, turn range around and prop rear up off ground a few inches. t side; one on panel covering wires going up from burner valve assembly. Undo both electrical plugs. Remove 2 screws at rear of bottom oven pan & take it out. Remove two screws at rear end of burner pipe and 1 at front end. Pull rear end of pipe gently away from burner valve assembly--this end just slips over brass nozzle w/small hole that points up at an angle. Take out burner valve assembly. Reverse to re-assemble. Magnetized screw-or nut driver makes job quick and easy. Be careful when replacing burner pipe that it fits over nozzle on burner valve assembly before tightening screws that hold pipe down. Use yellow tape to seal threads only at end of adapter that screws into burner valve assembly.

This product comes in a bottle with a brush like Liquid Paper. It goes on incredibly easy. A second coat might be needed. I wanted to prevent rust from setting in so I covered the scratches and dings. The paint is a little brighter since my washer is 10 years old but it still looks great.

First we loosened the oven handle which required removing 4 screws. Then we removed the bottom piece which the glass sits on which required removing 5 screws. Placed the double stick tape on the frame then placed the glass on. We then put the bottom piece back on, tightned up the oven door handle and we were done. lrss than 1/2 hr lat

er. This dose take 2 people to do otherwise you might drop and brake the glass. One thing I will say is that the oven glass did not come with the double sided tape to don't forget to order it. Also, there is only 1 piece of tape per package so order the proper amount your oven requires.
