KFED Range - Instructions

I think Part Select is great, but my story? I just plugged in a module.

It was so easy...well...a technical writer--one of those people who writes operation manuals--could have done it. But afterward, they wouldn't have been able to explain to anyone other than another tech writer how it was done.

very expensive to buy the part but just tighten the screw intot eh predefined place.

I had to replace the old with the new.
It is a perfect fit.

It was alittle difficult at 1st to remove the clips that held in the socket. But once out everything went smoothly.

Took the top and bottom plates off from the back of the stove. Removed the knob from the front, unscrewed the two screws holding it in. Then from the back side I unplugged the two wiring harnesses from the old switch, inserted the new one, plugged the harnesses back in and then put the screws back in the front to hold the new knob thing. ... Read more Put knob back on, put the two plates baxk.on the back, plugged the stove back.in and turned the burner on. Success. I saved over $240 by doing this myself

Just slipped the part into the electric outlet

The old part, including lightbulb and socket, had corroded into place, and the glass light cover was stuck to the socket. I used a dead blow hammer and a dowel just under the diameter of the hole to tap on the back side of the socket to loosen it and get it out. The metal tabs on the old socket were folded back to make it fit better (?), ... Read more which made it harder to remove. Lots of muscling of the part to get it out. Easy to install new part once old one was out of the way. An experienced person would have removed the old part and installed the new in no time.

I trouble shot and traced out to electrical short in face panel and found burnt wires. I've been a licensed electrician for years and it takes alot of comon sense to trouble shoot and find problem. I found schetch-matic of appliance and searched computor and found partselect.com and tried it. It wasnt no time and the part was at my door. ... Ordered new element from PartSelect. It arrived shortly. It did not match the original. Guy at appliance store explained how I could connect the wires on the new one. It still did not fix the problem. A repair man tried for 2.5 hours to fix it with no success. Now I will return the replacement element in the return envelope provided ... Read more .

I followed the instructions as provided. When I finished I noticed the switch was 1/4 turn out from the off position mark on the stove. So I pulled the stove back out and took the back panel off again pulled the knobs back off took out the screws that held the switches in place and rotated the switch 1/4 turn counter clockwise. One of the burners was an eight inch and the switch doesn't work as well as it could. However there was not a direct replacement for the eight inch burner.

Put the back of stove on blocks of wood to get high enough to screw the new leg in.

I first thought it was the switch. I ordered one and the wrong one was shipped to me FROM ANOTHER COMPANY. After more trouble shooting I discovered it was the cartridge that needed to be replaces. I ordered one and again, the wrong one was shipped to me. They told me I could not get the right part because they were not made anymore. ... Read more

So, I shipped it back and got in touch with Part Select. They found the right part and shipped it to me in 2 days. Problem fixed with the EXACT right part. I ordered the first part more than two months prior to receiving the correct part from PartSelect. All I had to do was plug it in to the recepticle in the stove. No tools required.

took the old one out ,poped the new one in, took 2 minutes

Replaced the oven light with a new one but it burnt out as soon as I turned it on. Therefore I decided a new socket may help.

My whirlpool apparently has the old style socket which is pictured in partselect part #PS12584564. The old style socket has to two metal arms that retain it against the metal reflector.

The ... Read more part that will come (#PS12584564) however is the new style that whirlpool has changed to, apparently. It is not as pictured. The socket and the reflector have different retention devices.

I used screw drivers to bend the two metal arms away to release the socket. Then I had to use allen wrenches to bend the reflector's retention tabs away.

Once I had the old socket, reflector, and lens replaced I just followed the video on partselect for part #PS12584564

Took the back panels off the control console. Unplugged the wires from the failed switch. Removed the knob. Unscrewed the mounting screws from the front. Removed and replaced the switch. Replaced mounting screws, knob, and wires. Replaced back panel covers. Element now works!
