KDTM8 Dishwasher - Instructions

Make sure you have everything you need before you start. The upper rack adjuster broke when the left track failed and needed to be replaced. Although only the left side track failed, the right side would have soon enough.

Remove gray plastic covers to expose and remove Phillips head screws on each side of inner door frame then remove plastic kick plate before sliding the dishwasher out roughly 20”. The insulation needs to be folded back (tab release back bottom corner) to expose the four rack fasteners on each side. A small socket bit (I used a slow speed hand drill) makes quick work of removing old tracks but make sure one hand is inside on the track to catch what’s left of it. Replace both tracks (the second will fail) arrow pointing up using the fasteners you removed. Reset the insulation and make sure water, drain and electrical connectors are all in good order before sliding dishwasher back and fastening side frame screws to adjoining cabinets (tip: use painter’s tape or similar to keep screw head connected to screwdriver). Replace plastic caps and the kick plate. I had to replace the upper rack adjuster before reinstalling the upper rack on the new tracks. Check the bottom filter and reservoir for any plastic bits or ball bearings and remove them before turning power and water back on. Enjoy not having to hand wash dishes again. For me, about 40 minutes.

A Mouse friend had seen fit to chew through the original drain line. I used my Model Number, and was able to order the correct part . It arrived the next day. Checked drain hose and it was clear without kinks. I shut of the electrical breaker. Verified no power to washer. Removed the lower trim panel. Lowered the adjustable feet to allow me to slide my unit out. Disconnected drain hose from unit. Pulled unit from cabinet. I did not need to lay the unit on its side and have enough power cable to not have to disconnect it while still pulling the unit all the way out of the cabinet. The pump is easily accessed from the right side hidden behind insulation. Disconnected power wire from pump. Pressed down locking latch and turned pump counter clockwise removed then replaced in opposite order. I have run 3 load’s before posting this and as of now my dishwasher is functioning perfectly.

Saved the cost of a new dishwashers

I watched the YouTube video I found in the link provided but PartSelect and followed the steps shown in the video. I replaced the two broken rack adjusters in about 20 minutes. You need to pull the unit out to get access to the spring connected to the rear leg frame. Use the everything in the kit. The rollers are upgraded and will guid the cable better.

It was easy to remove the old parts by using a screwdriver to push in “tabs” that kept retainer clips in place. Once removed, it was a matter of easy assembly in reverse and then re-clip. Sure, the parts are a bit pricey but not when compared to a repair visit or a new KitchenAid which otherwise was functioning perfectly.

Relatively simple. Unhook electrical, water supply, and hose from drain air gap. Unscrew two screws that hold in the dishwasher and pull it out slowly making sure you do not damage the insulation.

Have a couple of towels nearby because when you tip the dishwasher on it's side some water will spill out.

Locate the o ... Read more ld drain pump, disconnect it. Then pull the lever on the side of the pump and twist it off. Check to see if there are any materials that may be blocking the pump. Also good time to clean out the drain line.

Insert the new pump and put everything back in reverse order.
Make sure the dishwasher is level horizontally and vertically.

Following a utube video made it easy. Removed the outer cover of the door to expose latch. Two screws remove the latch, pay attention to how it was positioned and put the new one on and then replace the panel. But first turn off the electricity to the unit at the fuse box.

I turned off the power to dishwasher first. Removed bottom plate to get to leveling legs. Lowered the legs as to be able to pull and skid dishwasher out from under counter.
Once dishwasher is removed from under locate the 4 screws on right side that hold racks remove them.

Very easy to replace new rack slid once old rack removed.
The rack come assembled with skid and plastic holders.
This repair is a 10 minute repair per side.

The repair was easy. First remove the entire rack from the dishwasher. There are three clips that hold the rack adjuster in place. It's relatively easy to see how to loosen the clips to remove the old rack adjuster. I took a couple of photos before I loosened the clips to help remember where they belong. Read more r it's important to move the rack height adjustment release lever up and down until the vertical part of the rack adjuster easily slides into the slot in the upper rack bracket. Once the rack adjuster in in it's proper location replace the three clips removed at the start of the procedure. Place the rack back into the dishwasher.

Removed old gasket, cleaned track thoroughly, then followed instructions from video on Part Select order form. Instructions very clear and precise. Getting the new gasket was a little tedious at the corners but take your time and work the gasket with your fingers as shown on the video.

Pulled off old seal. Pressed into groove the new door seal. No parts required.

I found it best to lay the dishwasher on it's side, this makes it easier to attach a 90 degree hose fitting without cross threading the plastic fitting.
