KBFN506EPA00 KitchenAid Refrigerator - Instructions

I first turned off the refrigerator. I then used a hair dryer to melt and release the ice by warming the bottom of the mould. Then I turned the fridge back on and let the icemaker discharge the ice. I then turned off the icemaker and ordered the new part. I unplugged the fridge, removed the icemaker (three screws and an electrical conne ... Read more ction). Then I replaced the heater/tray with the new one and turned everything back on. Within a couple of hours we began having ice again.

Removed and disconnected the icemaker, cleaned all areas and disassembled the failed parts. Reassembled with the new parts inlcuded with the purchased package and resinstalled the unit. Started the unit and chedked for proper operation. Successful repair.

Removing the ice making assembly from the Ice compartment was not difficult except that two of the 3 screws we not visible without a mirror and then my nut driver was 5" long making it very tight quarters, so it was a time consuming process to remove them.

The next step was to figure out how to remove the faulty part from the rest of the assembly.
After some strong persuasion the part would not separate from the control Assy. (The front of the unit) To complete the job I had to pull the front cover and unplug the motor and heater assy to expose two additional screws that had to be removed to pull the defective part out. The reassembly went quite easy except the 2 screws that you need a mirror to see. I was also trying to hurry because the frozen items were not holding all that well after the door was open for about an hour and a half. An instruction sheet showing the steps would have cut the time over 1/2!

I was amazed when Fed Ex pulled up to our front door the following day after I ordered the parts, I was wondering what they were delivering and to my amazement it was the parts I had ordered from parts select the previous day , thank you so much , you are awesome. Unplug fridge, turn off water to fridge
Uninstall ice maker (some tools needed)
Remove ice buildup inside water line

Purchase new ice maker and installed it while watching a youtube video of how to do it. Once installed, turned on the water line and plugged in fridge.

Watched video of similar model repair for filter housing. But the model KitchenAide refrigerator requires enter and replacing housing from the back. My model has a metal facing which has doors attached to it also. It was simple repair though from the backside of the appliance.

Removed old ejector arm and installed new part.

I just popped out the old switch with a flat head screwdriver. Removed the connections and then installed new switch by reversing steps. Popped in back in and the light went on.

I took the cover off, and noticed the tabs holding the timer wheel were broken off on one side. after removing the wheel, I noticed the shaft from the ice lifters was broken. Pried out old part with screwdriver. Unplugged. When new part came, just plugged it in and pushed the part into place.

Just needed to replace the water filter

bulbs were not burnt out. received the new switch in a few days. watch the short video, was good to see how it comes out. used a putty knife to release the defective switch, removed wires put them on the new one and posed the new switch back in. Put One card in one side and other card on the opposite side, push in on both sides to press in clips that hold light in. Once clips are in light will start to come out unplug light and plug in new light. Push light back in.

My ice maker just stopped filling with water one day and after some troubleshooting, I found that a chunk of ice had built up in the tube between the water supply line and freezer. I took the ice maker out (Don't touch the heating element...it really hurts) and defrosted the ice obstruction by injecting hot water into the tube to melt the ... Read more ice. I used a new plastic syringe you get with an infant over the counter drug and a bucket to catch the water. I noticed the ice cube mold was peeling and decided to replace the mold. The mold is an easy replacement as long as you remember how you took it apart. My mold had some glue or compound stuck to the side that kept me from getting the mold flush against the motor assembly housing so I had to uncrew and scrape that gunk off and reattached. Other than that, there was nothing to it. Now the ice maker is good for another 8 years.
