Remove and replace Broil (upper) heating element.

  • Russell from ARROYO GRANDE, CA
  • Really Easy
  • 30 - 60 mins
  • Nutdriver
Turn off the power to the oven. (There should be a circuit breaker in the main power panel dedicated to just the oven) (the oven should be cool to the touch).
Open and remove the door by pulling it up and off the hinges (this is best accomplished with a helper).
Remove the racks (wire shelves).
Remove the two 1/4" mount ing screws that secure the heating element to the back and the two screws that secure the element to the top of the oven..
Gently pull the wires out and disconnect them from the heating element.
Now reverse the process.
Connect the wires to the new heating element in the same fashion as they came off.
Push the wires and heating element back in place and secure with the four screws.
Replace the wire racks (shelves).
Replace the door (again, this is best accomplished with a helper).
Turn the power back on.
Run a test of the broiler to make sure the repair was completed properly.
voila!

Center element of dual element burner would not glow.

  • JEFFREY from ROANOKE, VA
  • Easy
  • 30 - 60 mins
  • Pliers, Socket set, Wrench (Adjustable)
Unplug stove. Remove two screws holding down cooktop located on oven side just under cooktop front edge. Lift cooktop and prop up exposing underside. Suggest taking phone picture, making drawing or labeling of wire connections of the affected element. Use pliers to pull wire terminal clips off element blade connectors. The underside of ele ment frame pans have number scale at the peripheries. Remove the single screw of clip mount on old pan and remove old burner. Transfer the old mounting hardware and clips to the new element pan by installing them at the corresponding number locations. Remount new burner by loosening that single screw clip to allow easier install and positioning. Tighten screw. Reconnect wires to corresponding blades. Lower cooktop. I plugged stove in to test at this point (optional). Re-install the two screws located on ovenside cooktop edge. Plug in stove. Complete!

Replaced cracked inner oven door glass
1 person found this instruction helpful.
  • Sherry from SAINT PAUL, MN
  • Easy
  • 1- 2 hours
  • Screw drivers
This went pretty smoothly. Watch the video and just follow along step-by-step and it goes well. It would have only taken about 30-45 minutes (even being careful and slow) but I ended up placing the glass twice (be very careful and triple check that all the insulation gets poked under the housing and none is sticking out). The first time I had a small piece sticking out. (Use gloves for this part so your hands don't itch). The second time I needed to redo part of it is I forgot one of the spacers on the door handle and had to get that in there so the handle worked properly. I also took the time to clean the oven while the door was off so that took some time. Total I probably had 1.5-2 hours into this project but at least half of that was me cleaning and being fussy. This is an easy repair. I'm not a confident repair person and this wasn't difficult. It was a little time consuming but well worth the cost vs calling a repair person or buying a new appliance. You do need to have a specialty star head on a screwdriver but my simple tool kit had all the tools I needed. The oven has been working great since the repair.

Oven will not heat

  • Joseph from Homosassa, FL
  • Easy
  • 15 - 30 mins
  • Pliers, Screw drivers
As many people have encountered, my oven would not heat but the igniter would be bright orange and glow! Over time, the igniter wears and degrades causing oxidation to the surface. This cause the igniter to fail and operate at a lower current level, below 2.8 amps! Normal igniters operator over 3.0 to 3.1 amps. When is happens, a low c urrent igniter does not have enough input to the control valve to tell the valve to open to allow gas to flow over the igniter to light the oven, thus heat the oven! This has got to be the NUMBER one reason for an oven not heating!

Broiler Element Repair
  • Robert from SANTA MARIA, CA
  • Easy
  • 15 - 30 mins
  • Nutdriver
I was attempting to replace the broiler element on the oven, but I discovered that the wiring may be the actual problem. I suggest before you order parts for a broiler repair, that you test the wires to ensure that you have continuity. I will have to trace the wires back to the source (the other element works fine) and see if I can find t he problem with the current. I will keep the broiler element I ordered until I can confirm that the old element works.

Oven lights were burning out regularly
  • Douglas from Thornton, CO
  • Really Easy
  • 15 - 30 mins
  • Socket set
Replaced the Oven light housing. Unscrewed the two screws that hold the housing in place. Pulled out the housing and disconnected the wire tabs from the light housing tabs. Slid the wire tabs onto the tabs of the new light housing fixture. (Each tab is fitted to the tab in goes on so they can not be mixed up) Pushed the housing fixtu re back into place and screwed the housing into place.

one leg of the terminal block was loose and overheated under load.the terminal block melted and could have caused a fire.
  • brendan from lebanon, NH
  • Easy
  • 30 - 60 mins
  • Pliers, Screw drivers, Socket set, Wrench set
I took a picture of the setup and damage . I then disconnected the burnt wires and replaced the wires . Then I installed the new terminal block and connected the wires to the proper positions. The reason for the failure was that the delivery people didn't tighten the cord when they installed the stove . I would check the connections per iodically as to avoid another situation like this .

Broiler Element burnt out
  • Cherri from Katy, TX
  • A Bit Difficult
  • 30 - 60 mins
  • Nutdriver
The actual repair was relatively easy but access to the area in the oven made it a little difficult. Just unscrew 5 screws with a nut driver, unplug the old element, plug in the new element and reinstall the 5 screws. The only thing that made this repair difficult was being able to reach the connectors where you plug in the new element. They are loose wire connectors that don't reach very far out of the element receptacle. It was difficult to hold the end of the connector and plug in the new element because the oven door is in your way. Maybe it is easier if you take the oven door off first?
