timer knobs missing
5 of 11 people found this instruction helpful.
  • Doris from Redwood City, CA
  • Really Easy
  • Less than 15 mins
Just pushed the new timer knobs onto the stem. They fit and now I can set the oven timer without having to use a pair of pliers to grip the stem and turn it.

Two of the knobs fit perfectly.

The stem for the the clock was broken off and there was not enough of the stem left for the new knob to fit.

Broiler element stopped heating
3 of 5 people found this instruction helpful.
  • Steve from Fort Worth, TX
  • A Bit Difficult
  • 1- 2 hours
  • Screw drivers
Broiler element arrived at my door 3 days after ordering which was nice. Apparently the billing dept. is out of the USA so don't be surprised, like I was, to find a suspicious looking charge for a currency exchange fee (mine was 42 cents). I had to drill two new screw holes in the base of the new element in order for it to fit my oven. I also had to use heavy wire snips to cut off about an inch of the top of the new element base. The female electrical connections also had to be spread out with needle nose pliers since the new element connections were slightly thicker. With all of the issues I had I was frustrated and it took about two hours. On the other hand, the part works perfectly and was priced right. Hopefully it will fit perfectly out of the box for your oven.

Broiler unit burned out
3 of 5 people found this instruction helpful.
  • Phillip from Charlotte, NC
  • A Bit Difficult
  • 30 - 60 mins
  • Nutdriver
I removed the unit easily with anut driver, however the unit also supported the thermo-link. I had to use the hack saw to relieve a small opening for the thermo-link to pass through. No real problem. Then a few holes to be drilled to attach the 'link' to the base of the broiler unit.

BUT-I went into the website listed on the bo x. GEAppliances.com Guess what? Their price was twice yours!!

  • Pliers, Screw drivers, Socket set
I looked on Youtube for a how to video. It was accurate but the screws in my oven were NOT phillips head screws, they turned out to be sheet metal screws. I used pliers at first which was a PAIN but then I borrowed a socket wrench from the neighbor that was MUCH better!! I had wanted to do it myself to prove to my husband and son that I c ould but I ended up needing their help because the screws were so tight.... But we did the repair ourselves!!!

The light inside the oven had burned out

  • Catherine from SEATTLE, WA
  • Very Easy

0. As a safety precaution, unplug the range or hit the relevant fuse breaker before you start. You might also want to grab a flashlight. Definitely do not try to do this while the oven is hot.
1. Pinch the wire over the light bulb cap to remove it. This is inside the oven at the back.
2. Pop off the hemispherical glass cap. ... Read more />3. Unscrew the old light bulb, and screw the new light bulb in its place.
4. Put the cap back.
5. Secure the cap by putting the wire back in its slots on the cap.

No tools needed, the cap is just held in place with pressure from the wire.

Replaced bake element after first one burnt out
1 person found this instruction helpful.
  • Gene from Kingwood, TX
  • Really Easy
  • Less than 15 mins
  • Nutdriver, Screw drivers
The replacement was simple. I turned off the power to the oven, took out two nuts holding the element in place, unscrewed the element from the power and finished the job in 10 minutes. The company that we called was going to charge nearly $200 to complete this job. I saved a lot of money by doing it my self.

Put new element in place and re-attached nuts to wiring (very simple). Pushed back into place and replaced screws to hold plate to back of oven wall. The oven was not reaching the desired temperature

  • Richard from Arlington, TX

If the bottom heating element is not glowing red when you turn the oven on replacing this part may be the answer. Look for a spot on the old element that could indicate it has shorted out and no longer carries a charge.
Very simple to remove the two screws holding the element in place, pull the element out about 3 inches, disconnect the two wires, replace with the new element and reattach the two screws. Simple and effective. The new element is fast and responsive. Do this before any other suggestions to replace more complicated parts in the thermostate etc.
