Followed the other directions -- I have the bottom tray freezer. It was really easy to unscrew the screws -- a bit of a reach to get them all, but not a problem. Leave the top screws half-way in and it's a bit easier (the icemaker has the brackets that just sit on the screws). Thanks to everyone who left instructions!

Ice maker was leaking after it filled up with water

I read the instructions from your site, removed the old unit, salvaged the parts to be reused and reassembled. 1/2 hour later I had ice and no leaks.

Our icemaker stopped working

I first loosened the hex screws and lifted the unit off. Then I unplugged old unit from the wiring harness. I did have to switch the inlet funnel since the new unit was a little different. I used the one from the old unit. I then plugged it back in, rehung and tightened the screws. The unit started operating within a few hours.

water over flowing into ice bin

First i removed the three screws that held the assembly to the fridge, then removed the water flow tube from ice maker. 2- flipped ice maker over ,then used a small flathead to push in locking tab that held wire harness and out comes ice maker. All though the water cup was not quite the same i used the old ice maker to take apart to see how it was put together,hopeing there wasn't a myriad of parts. -NO INSTRUCTIONS- piece of cake, don't take out outside screws,take out the 2 inside screws-these srcews hold the guts to the water tray-pull apart and reassemble the unit after you have switched the cups. then reinstall into fridge with your outside cover and the full bin wire and your done. It helps to be alittle mechanicly inclined. -NO GUTS NO GLORY,DONT BE AFFRAID TO LOOK OUTSIDE THE BOX-

The coating was coming off of the ice maker and ending up in the ice.

First I removed the screw holding the ice maker on the wall and then loosen two other screws in oreder to remove the maker. Once out, I replaced the maker with the new one. Then replaced it in the refrig.

Water filled up ice receptacle and froze in a solid block.

Unplug fridge, close off water supply valve. Remove two screws attaching assembly to freezer wall, detach wiring harness. Remove parts from old assembly: wiring harness, shut-off rod, harness clamp and attach to new assembly. Connect wiring harness, two screws attach new assembly to freezer wall. Plug in fridge and open water supply valve (after an opportunity to change in-line filter). Works now!

used 1/4 inch wrench to remove bottom screw
and loosend tip screw and removed valve wires and water line

Ice maker would overflow

Most of the stories on repairing this ice maker indicated that was real easy until describing the Amana version. The fill tube attaches differently. The recommendation was to use your old "cup". I have found that to make the change required that you find a philips screw driver and locate two access holes in the motor end of the control un it. you can loosen those two screws (they won't fall out) all of the way and pull the control unit from the tray part of the ice maker. DON'T remove the three screws that hold the control unit together or rotate the sprocket. This will allow you to disassemble the parts that hold the "cup" in place. Just remember "if it isn't coming apart easily your not doing it right".

Ice maker coating was cracked causing water to drip and freeze in ice catcher

First I loosened 2 phillips head screws at the top of the ice maker (the one that is close to the front is a little difficult to get a screwdriver on). These 2 screws do not have to be removed. Took 1 screw out of the L-bracket at the bottom of the ice maker. I then slipped the icemaker upward from the 2 top screws and unplugged the elec trical wires at the connector at back of the refrigerator to remove the ice maker. I then removed the front cover from it and placed it on the replacement ice maker. I also swapped the L-brackets on the two ice makers as the new one was bent. I then reinstalled the new Ice maker in the reverse order.

Ice maker had a leak and was putting wter in ice tray

I simply removed 3 nut head screews and the old unit came off. I removed the ice level arm off the old unit and put on the new one. I removed the old wire harness and plugged into the new unit. I mounted the new unit, plugged it in and was done. I had ice in less than an hour. So simple my 11 year old could have done it without help.

Ice maker wasn't making ice.

I started by removing the ice tray. I unscrewed the three screws holding the ice maker.I positioned the icemaker to the point I could insert a screwdriver into the space that releases the power clip and pushed and nudged the power clip out. I then pulled out the broken icemaker and replugged the new one in. I then put the icemaker back in the position it was originally in and replaced the screws. Getting the clip out was the trickiest thing about it. You have to position it where you can see the clip. All in all it was a simple fix. The icemaker started making ice not to long after that. I did this while leaving the refrigerator on. I think they suggest unplugging it. It was not that hard to do. I saved sixty five dollars on labor and another thirty five dollars on the unit by not using the appliance repair company.

Ice maker leaking water in back of unit

Removed three screws, unplugged the electrical from the side of the freezer. Transferred the electric and the ice level bar to the new unit. Plugged the unit back in, installed the three screws and that was it. The teflon on the unit was coming off which caused the leak and a fowl taste in the ice cubes. The new unit took care of this . Received the package in three days, wonderful!! Anyone could do this themself!!

Ice maker tray continually leaked into ice cube bin

Repair was fairly straight-forward. First removed the ice cube receptacle and the glass rack for access to the ice maker. Loosened two hex head screws at the top of the rear plate of the ice maker (do not remove completely), and removed one hex head screw at the bottom of the rear mounting plate of the ice maker. After removing the bottom screw, lifted the ice maker off the two top screws. The only real difficulty was positioning the unit so as to be able to unplug the wiring harness from the rear left side of the ice maker. This turned out to be a awkward, but a little manouvering allowed access to the harness receptacle. A metal clip at the rear of the icemaker clips over the insulation of one of the wires in the wiring harness. Remove the clip from the wire before attempting to remove the icemaker. The wiring harness was too short to allow access to the release tab at the top of the harness connector, so the tab had to be worked loose with a screwdriver from the front of the receptacle. If you take this approach, make sure power has been turned off to the refrigerator to avoid an electrical accident. A probe with a short right-angle tip would release the tab without resorting to inserting a screwdriver into the receptacle. Remove the old unit and set aside. -- Compare the replacement icemaker with the original to determine whether any brackets, clips, wire bails, etc. must be transferred to the new unit. In this case, only the wire bail that gages depth of ice in the ice receptacle had to be transferred. Water entered the old unit through a cutout in the back of the cube-shaped plastic piece at the right side of the icemaker. The new unit had a pre-molded opening in the right side of the cube for water entry. Three score marks were provided in the rear wall of the cube to convert the new unit to rear water entry. Using a box knife, the rear of the plastic cube on the new unit was opened along the score marks. The extra opening in the side does not seem to cause any leakage problem. Installation of the new unit is the reverse of disassembly. Insert the wiring harness plug into the receptacle at the rear of the new icemaker. The plug should only engage the receptacle in the right orientation due to the latching tab and notch on the plug and receptacle. Press the plug into the receptacle until the latching tab is engaged. Place the wire clip at the lower rear of the unit (transfer the clip from the old unit if necessary) over the wire the clip was originally removed from and press firmly to seat the clip on the wire. Reorient the back side of the icemaker toward the mounting screws in the rear wall of the freezer compartment. Place the two slotted holes in the rear of the new unit over the screws in the back of the freezer compartment and press down to engage the screws. Replace the third screw in the lower mounting flange of the new icemaker. Tighten all three self-threading screws, being careful to not strip out the holes in the freezer wall. Replace the ice receptacle and the glass rack (if equipped) and unit is ready to use. Dispose of the first couple of ice dumps to insure any debris has been flushed out of the new icemaker.
