Replace the door gasket on the freezer door of my top-freezer refrigerator
3 of 4 people found this instruction helpful.
  • Scott from NAPLES, FL
  • Very Difficult
  • 1- 2 hours
  • Socket set
Removed the door by removing the two screws holding it on. Do not try to do this repair with the door attached. Easily removed the old gasket. Getting the new one on the door was EXTREMELY difficult. I couldn't do it. After 90 minutes, I gave up and called my appliance repairman. When he arrived, he and I worked together to get the new ga sket on the door. It took 2 sets of hands to do this. It still took us about 40 minutes. My repairman had a few choice words about the design of the system holding the gasket on the door. Ditto for me. So the cost of my repair was doubled because I had to pay the repairman to help me attach the new gasket. I should have just bought a new fridge.

gasket was not easily fitted

  • neal j from COLUMBIA, SC
  • Very Difficult
  • More than 2 hours
I did not do the repair but observed a friend trying to replace gasket in refrigerator. It was a very difficult procedure. He works as a handyman so he knew what he was doing and had to manually fit gasket with some help with a hammer. Gasket did not go in easy and had to be forced to fit until job completed/

Freezer was not freezing food.
3 of 4 people found this instruction helpful.
  • Steve from Ridgecrest, CA
  • Really Easy
  • 15 - 30 mins
  • Nutdriver, Screw drivers
Inspected freezer because food was not freezing, getting cold, but not freezing. Noticed fan was not blowing air, but making a little motor noise, like it's trying to turn. Removed cover panel, and found the fan blade rubbing on the panel, fan shaft was worn out and very loose, wobley. That told me the fan needed to be replaced. Found par t on the GE Partselect website and ordered the parts via the website order process. This was easy. The parts were shipped quickley and were at my front door the next day. Couldn't believe it. The actual process was very easy: Remove cover, remove bracket holding fan motor, remove and replace motor, re-assemble parts. About 20-25 minutes from start to finish. Freezer is working like it's suppose to.

switchlight on my refrigerator was not working
5 of 10 people found this instruction helpful.
  • Eileen from Coto de Caza, CA
  • A Bit Difficult
  • 30 - 60 mins
  • Pliers
I found instructions on the web about how to do this repair, so I ordered the part with confidence. But the instructions simply said "pull out the old switchlight". That was actually somewhat difficult as the clip on the side intended to hold the part in was stubborn. I eventually used a utility to slice off the clip. From that point, it was just a matter of plugging in the new switchlight , which was very simple.

Old cover was cracked and needed replaced
3 of 4 people found this instruction helpful.
  • Richard from Harrisburg, PA
  • Really Easy
  • Less than 15 mins
The repair only required removing nthe old cover and installing the new one. What I was really surprised about is the time for delevery. I ordered the part on Friday morning around 11 AM and it was delevered by Fed Ex at 8:30 AM on Saturday morning. I am not sure how many locations they have, but this must have been close to Harrisburg, Pa.

Old yellow, uncleanable fridge/freezer door handles
3 of 5 people found this instruction helpful.
  • Janet from ROCHESTER, NY
  • Easy
  • Less than 15 mins
  • Screw drivers
Moved into new apartment with a white fridge & yucky old yellow handles. After trying a dozen suggestions for cleaning them, I gave up & was delighted to find new parts still available & within my budget, as I did not want to spend much on replacing parts for a rental fridge. Approx $20 + shipping was worth it. Just a matter of unscrewing the old handles & attaching the new ones. Piece of cake - and I am NOT what you'd call a mechanical person. Thanks!

After removing all items from the broken top, I removed both drawers and crisper top. I then slid the new top in place and replaced the drawers which easily slid into the grooves in the underside of the top.

Crisper Drawer Cover was broken, and i wanted to add a third shelf for my garage fridge
2 of 2 people found this instruction helpful.
  • Joseph from HAYDEN, CO
  • Very Easy
  • Less than 15 mins
I slid the old crisper drawer cover out, and slid the new one in. Then I respaced the other shelves, making room for the third shelf, and put the new shelf in. Apart from the time it took me to unpack the boxes these parts came in, and to remove my groceries from the fridge, the "repair" itself took all of about 90 seconds.

Freezer was wet and there was no air coming out of the freezer fan. Unit was very noisy too.

  • Robert from BOULDER, CO
  • Easy
  • 30 - 60 mins
  • Pliers, Screw drivers, Socket set
The video that was attached to the part order was good, but not exactly the same as my unit. One thing I recommend is that you cover up the drain below the evaporator coil with a piece of paper and tape it down, because as I was putting the motor back I dropped a screw and it fell down the drain. So I had to go buy a new screw.
Gi ve the cost of a repair man coming to fix a refrigerator that cost only $450 to begin with, doing this repair was well worth my time. (But I also had another refrigerator to move things to and could take my time and wait while they replaced the faulty part they shipped me.)

Fan motor was making an intermittent (very annoying) squealing noise.
2 of 2 people found this instruction helpful.
  • Larry from SHERWOOD, MI
  • Really Easy
  • 30 - 60 mins
  • Nutdriver
Located the model number on the inside wall of the unit. Wanted to make sure to order the correct product.Because of the age of the refrigerator I ordered the rubber mounting grommets. In this model the mounting frame is built at an angle that makes the removal and reinstall very easy. Remove two screws and the motor is loose. The fan bla de easily pulls off the shaft of the motor . Clean up the fan and reassemble.
