Light switch shorting out causing open door alarm to go off
7 of 9 people found this instruction helpful.
  • George from Mount Prospect, IL
  • Really Easy
  • Less than 15 mins

Easy fix, but they don't give you plenty of wire to work with. When I pulled the switch out it only had about an inch of wire that came with it. meaning if I didn't have a grasp on the wires as I was removing the switch they would have slipped back up the opening

The door when opened had swung back and made contact with the hinge. Over time it had bent the hinge upward so the pin was coming out of the door and it was not closing (sealing) properly.

I removed the screws out of the hinge while my wife put pressure on the door to hold it in place. I removed the hinge, replaced it with a new one, and screwed it back in place. Took just a couple of minutes. Easy and fast. The refrigerator was not leveled properly and that was why the door had swung back so fast, with enough force to even tually bend the hinge. I contacted geappliances.custhelp.com and used the chat option to speak to someone about how to lower the back wheels. They were extremely helpful in walking me through it. Now the refrigerator is leveled, and the door, when opened, will not swing back and contact the hinge. My overall experience in fixing this problem, from locating and ordering the correct part, to installing it, and then fixing the problem that led to the hinge being damaged in the first place, was outstanding.

Refrigerator door switch went bad

  • Pliers, Screw drivers
It was very simple! I assessed the situation and gathered my tools for the job. I used a flat head screwdriver, pliers, and electrical tape. I used the flat head screwdriver to release the switch from its location, the pliers to take the electrical terminations apart. I taped the wires individual so that I would not loose them in the door , also not to short them out. I then unpackaged the new switch to install. Pulled the tape off one of the of the terminals while holding the wire, and attached it to the new switchs terminal post. Did the same with the other wire, then snapped the new switch back into place. Immediately had results. I opened and closed the door a few times in amazement that something so annoying such as a light in your fridge could be so easy to fix. Most of all, having a business to rely on to find the part and deliver in a timely fashion. Thank you Partselect.com, you were outstanding!!!

Emptied the door bin, removed it from its slots, and gently spread the plastic bin sides allowing the broken face panel to fall out. Replaced one end in the notches, gently widened the opening at the other end to slide the new face panel in, and jiggled just a little to seat the panel fully. Done!

water line (from the PS304374 Dual Inlet Water Valve) to the ice maker was craked and leaking
5 of 5 people found this instruction helpful.
  • Daniel from ZIONSVILLE, PA
  • Easy
  • 30 - 60 mins
  • Nutdriver
1. Removed the back panel of the fridge to get access to the inlet water valve.
2. Removed black poly water line from valve (pull back on white ring where line is attached and pull the line out)
3. Removed the inlet tube from top-back of fridge (where it goes into the ice make). use putty knife to get under the sticky white g asket beneath the black oval housing and pull the tube out form the back of the fridge.
4. Replace the water line with new part taking care to properly seat the line into the the bottom water valve and pushing the water tube into the hole for the ice maker.

Note: Be sure to take off the protective covering from the white - sticky grommet and push to adhere to metal on fridge.

to be safe - use a bit of clear silicone chaulking round the perimeter of the grommet and push to tighly bond the water inlet tube to the fridge.

The reason for this - is that if you do not get a good bond using the white - sticky gormmet alone - you may have the water tube inside the ice maker freeze up.

Also once the new water line is installed be sure to secure the line to the metal back of the fridge - so the line will not move. some fridges come with metal hose clamps to do this - otherwise use duct tape

Water will not dispense and the refrigerator drawers were freezing our foods and vegetables.
5 of 5 people found this instruction helpful.
  • Jeff from Manteca, CA
  • Easy
  • 30 - 60 mins
  • Screw drivers
It was a simple remove and replace. The new part fits directly in place of the old part. Its a pain to remove the light but once you get the light out the job is simple. The light must be pried out gently. It is snapped in place toward the air inlet cover and needs to be pried loose. Once the light is out there are 4 screws holding the air inlet cover in place. Remove the 4 screws and unfasten the wiring harness. Once the screws and wiring harness are disconnected remove the old part. Reinstall the new part in reverse order.

Noisey evap motor
7 of 11 people found this instruction helpful.
  • Peter from Kalispell, MT
  • Easy
  • 30 - 60 mins
  • Nutdriver
I tried to quite the noisey evap motor with special liquid motor grease from Radio Shack. It did not work, so I ordered the evap motor. My freezer motor was wired slightly different than the motor I received. The replacement motor had a male plug attached to the four wires, the original motor was different, so I cut the wires and splic ed them into the original freezer wires (colors were the same). Remounted motor. Works great, and no more groaning motor

Noisy refrigerator
6 of 8 people found this instruction helpful.
  • Eric from NEW YORK, NY
  • A Bit Difficult
  • 1- 2 hours
  • Nutdriver, Screw drivers
I visually inspected the compressor and narrowed down the source of the noise to the freezer area. Then I removed the doors and the screws securing the divider panel. Next I removed the bottom panel of the freezer, the styrofoam insullation panel and the evaporator motor. The motor is mounted between two grommets. I replaced the gromme t facing the fan blades. The aluminum reflector below the styrofoam insulation panel had also come loose. I reattached it and reassembled the refrigerator in reverse order. The noise is gone!

Ice cubes froze in the tray and frost was all underneath
5 of 6 people found this instruction helpful.
  • Michael from Sylva, NC
  • Easy
  • 30 - 60 mins
  • Socket set
I read stories from the website how others did it so I figured I would give it a try. I put all the frozen stuff in the refrigerator piled up. Took out the shelves. Took out 2 screws with a socket extension ( nut driver will work fine.) Remove the light bulb. lifted up on the back panel...it came right out. Saw the coils and on top the se nsor. Took it off, cut the wires, spliced in the color coded new one ( pink to pink, orange to orange) Stuck it in the top coil in the original position and crossed my fingers! I put all the pieces back easily, restocked the freezer and waited. HOORAY!! My ice cubes are all separate and free. NO frost inside. A very easy fix for $20.

Note: If there is a large amount of ice build up on your coils a hair dryer works great. The drain is on the bottom anyway. Also , you may want to seal around the wire nuts to keep moisture out. I did

Our daughter spilled juice on the refrigerator light button. It started with the light coming on very slowly and then not at all. We popped off the old button with a flat head screwdriver, plugged in the new one. Works perfect. Can't believe how inexpensive and easy the fix was.
