First we removed two screws under the rim of the range top to open the lid. Lifted the lid and removed the screws from the bracket that holds the elements, Be careful with the clips that hold the element in, if you break them or bend them there aren't any more! Disconnected the wires, needed needlenose pliers to grip them...connected new element, popped it back in place, replaced bracket, closed top ...Easy peasy!!!

My husband followed the video instructions and it was easy to fix.

Removed trim screws,(4) , lifted range top and removed the element after taking a picture of same. then disconnected the wires. I was upset because the new element had a different wire configuration. I put it in anyway in spite of your warning of not being able to return it if it didn't work. I fired it up and it did not work correct ... Read more ly. After a couple of "...oh dear me." A few Hail Mary's and an educated guess I reversed two wires and gave it another smoke test. Well, kiss my ....! It works.

removed the old burner and put the new one in it's place.

Removed 2 screws located underneath the front lip of the range top. Lifted range top and supported. Removed the 2 screws at either end of the support bracket. Read more re to reconnect the wires to the correct terminals on the new element. I did 1 wire at a time so as to not make a mistake at reconnecting the wires. Then replace the support bracket with the 2 screws and lower the range top in place and put back the 2 screws that hold the range top in position. VOILA!! Success. It works. The wife is now happy again:)

Ordered a new Surface Burner Switch to replace the failed unit.
When I opened the burner lid, I could see the insulation on all the wiring for the burners had fallen apart and wiring was exposed. The wiring for all 4 burners was exposed as the insulation had deteriorated and fallen off over 80% of the circuits. It was just blind luc ... Read more k there was not a fire or an electrical failure on a grand scale. I replaced the wiring and burner connection assemblies as they also showed signs of age and deterioration.
Had the switch not gone bad, forcing me to look into the wiring assemble, there very likely would have been an electrical fire. In a 220 volt appliance, electrical fires are a lot more excitement than I need.
