DU9400XT4 Whirlpool Dishwasher - Instructions

The old spring on the detergent dispenser box door failed and the dispenser door would not pop open at the right time in the wash cycle.

Ordering the new spring was easy on the website. Need dishwasher model number, stock number and serial number.

Hint - Order at least 2 springs! They are not expensive.

... Read more >I followed the instructions in the video. I could get the spring on the spindle correctly but could not get the two spring prongs to catch to create spring tension on the door without using a thin knife blade to carefully push each prong to where it caught on the dispenser door.

I needed to slide the prongs slowly and carefully to get them to catch on the door. This distorted the spring. That's why you really need two springs. I then used needle nose pliers to pull the latching part of the spring to catch on the inner door. That distorts the spring, too.

So you really need two springs. One spring to learn how to do it and a second one to replace the one you distorted as you learned.

First, I checked the ripped box for damage to the dishrack. Fortunately, there was none. Then I looked for the instruction booklet. Unfortunately, there was none. And the parts bag was ripped and I did not know what was supposed to be in it. So, I rechecked the photo of the dishrack on the website and found that either parts were mi ... Read more ssing or the dishrack was different than illistrated. After a few moments of thought, I realized the latter was the case. I then figured I would have to use some deep thought to do the installation since neither the missing instruction booklet nor the unzoomable photo would help. So, I pulled out the tall thin thingamabob from the old dishrack and put it in the new one though it did not secure as tightly. Then I put the wheel units on just like the old one. What I could not immediately figure out was where the collapsible rack row was mounted. I eventually realized that the rod went into a hole in the wheel units and the latch mounted above one unit. I still have no idea where the two other tan clips go. Though the dishrack is different and thus requires different science to fill it, it appears to do the job.

Removed the washer from the cabinet, although the repair kit could have been replaced without this step. However, it still made it easier. Removed the spray arm assembly and the top cover to the motor. I had to block the motor to keep it from turning while I unscrewed part number 11. The rest was very self explanatory. The "impeller" was ... Read more seized onto the motor shaft (20 years old) so I had to use a chisel to break what remained off, then clean some corrosion from the shaft. The repair kit worked and the pictorial parts diagram that came with the kit was very clear. Bottom line: "Easy peasy, lemon squeezy!" Great web site for diagnosis and parts diagrams!

I bought the kit because it had other parts that I thought I needed.

Simply snapped new spray arm in place. Took longer to get the soray arm out of the shipping package.

It was a piece of cake, just slapped together and slid it into place!

I followed the instructions that came with the spring and found them to be very complete. The repair was easy. The repair involved removal of the lower access door, installation of the new spring and replacing the access door.

Was a simple task to perform, a child could have done it. The technical skills diagnosing it was a bit hard though. The skills finding the culprit was indeed simple. Rubber was torn. Now to find out why it won't dry properly at the heating element is another task. It leaves water droplets on the dishes.
Once I got the rubber screw on attachment installed the dishes are clean & dry now & no water dropplets on the dishes.
The water dispenses up to the top like it suppost to throught the small tube to wash the upper rack dishes.
The wife is happy now she doesn't have to clean & dry them by hand.

The lower dish rack rolls directly out of the dishwasher without problem - there is no permanent attachment. The new rack comes as a kit, which includes the 4 required dish rack wheels (Part # 6 in the diagram). One part (only) from the original dish rack needs to be removed and re-installed on the new rack - the upper spray arm tower ( ... Read more Part #5 in the diagram). That is easily removed from the original rack with a 1/8 counterclockwise turn, to disengage the 'feet', and installed on the new rack with a 1/8 clockwise turn. The kit is designed to allow for use on multiple models, so there are 'extra' parts left over, after it is used for the DU8500XX-2 dishwasher. These can be discarded.

The 1/4 inch impeller bolt to shaft would not budge with a nut driver so I had to use a ratchet to loosen it. I could not hold the drain impeller with an adjustable wrench so I had to use a vice-grip. This still did not loosen it so I used an oscillating power saw to cut away at the bottom of the drain impeller being careful to only cut s ... Read more o deep, I didn't want to cut into the motor shaft. Once I had cut some grooves into the drain impeller, I could break it into pieces and remove it. Upon reassembly I tightened the 1/4 inch bolt with the ratchet.

Took the old one off and replaced it with the new one we received from you. It was great because we received the part just in time to do the Thanksgiving dishes! Thanks PartSelect.

Kit didn't have the center conical piece. Easy to switch tho. I am impressed at the speed of which the part arrived.

THERE WERE NO INSTRUCTIONS INCLUDED, COULDN'T FIGURE 0UT HOW TO INSTALL THE NEW ROLLERS ON THE NEW RACK FINALLY INSTALLED THE OLD ROLLERS ON THE NEW RACK AND THEY WERE MUCH EASIER TO INSTALL I DONT UNDERSTAND
WHY THE NEW ROLLERS WERE THE SAME AS THE OLD ROLLERS
EXCEPT FOR THE COST.

Since there were no printed instructions, we looked at the photo schematic.
Reassembly using the photo was easy by putting the old rack alongside the new one and adjusting the new rack spacing to match the old one.
We also had new wheels which snapped on.
