CSX20EJF Hotpoint Refrigerator - Instructions

Removed screws holding top door hinge. Lifted the door off bottom hinge. Unscrewed cam from bottom of door. Drilled out rivet holding the second cam in the bottom hinge. Replaced both cams using a flat headed bolt to hold the bottom cam. Dropped door into bottom hinge and replaced top hinge screws. Job done.

Not a difficult job as long as you have a drill !!!

Replaced the old cams with new ones, door works perfect now.

Remove screw at hinge cover, top of door.
Remove two screw/nuts at hinge and remove hinge while holding door in place.
Lift door off of lower hinge
remove two nut/screws at bottom of door and replace closing cam. Be sure the pivot pin hole in the cam is lined up with the hole in door.

Next drill out rivet holdi ... Read more ng cam to lower hinge on the refer. Install cam with a pan head screw and nut (to replace rivet). It will help if you remove the plastic grille cover at the bottom of the frige.

Set door back on the lower pin and shut so the the magnetic strip holds the door in place. Re-install the upper hinge loosely. Adjust the door for an even gap and tighten the screw/nuts. Re-install the cover.

A very easy fix.

First of all, It was Christmas and no extra money to pay a repairman.
i got on the computer and started looking for a parts breakdown for an older GE side by side.
I finally found it and located the part I thought we needed.
I looked at several parts dealers and yours had the best price.

Door needed to be supported before hinge assembly was removed. After replacing broken cam doors aligned and doors closing properly.

Thought I would only need one when I looked at the picture of the parts. Decided to order two just in case and after taking it apart both were broken. Needed two.
Took the top door bracket off and lifted the door off of the bottom bracket. Re-assembled cams, put a little white grease on all moving parts, placed the door into botto ... Read more m bracket and installed top bracket. Adjusted top bracket to make door line up with edge of refrigerator and all is well.

removed top plate and raised the door off. I removed the L bracket from the fridge then noticed the part was rivited onto the L bracket. I cut the rivit and replaced the cam and used a small bolt and nut to sdecure it. Replaced the L bracket, the door, and the upper support. Only problem was the surprise rivit

Turned the wire protector to the side. Turned out the old bulb and replaced it with the new. Turned the wire protector back in place and I'm like new.

Buy ( 2 ) cams !!!! removed hinge cover and hinge on top of the door, ( 2 screws )...lift door off of the bottom hinge and lay door on the floor, remove broken cam on bottom of door with nut driver, ( 2 screws ) , install new cam..... remove the bottom hinge off of the front of the refriger ... Read more ator with nut driver, (2 screws ).... saw rivit off and remove old cam, install new cam and secure with new bolt and nut,... reinstall hinge back on bottom front of refigerator.....replace door back onto the bottom hinge.....install top hinge back onto the top of the door....replace hinge cover......done !

We opted for Option 1 which was pretty easy. Option 2 would be even easier and take less time but costs about $9 more.

We taped the door with 3 pieces of duct tape, then put boards under it. Used socket set to remove cam and then cut off rivet so we could just use a screw to keep in place. . . Followed the instruction video. The price was high for a plastic part the size of a quarter.

Followed Partselect video on how to replace cam riser. Very, very helpful!

Best for 2 people on this repair as 1 person needs to hold the door and the other position the bottom pin in place on reassembly. On my side by side I was replacing the cam on the cold food side, not the freezer. But I got down and inspected both the broken cam and the cam on the side that wasn't broken to understand how the parts fit tog ... Read more ether. Each door has 2 cams that work/fit together. So be sure the one you are replacing is installed properly (flat side towards the door body). Remove all contents from inside door including the shelves. Use a phillips screwdriver to remove the cover plate on the top hinge. Use tape or a marker to mark on the refrigerator top a corner of where the bracket is positioned, for proper placement on reassembly. While someone is holding the door, remove the 2 bolts from the top bracket (or the back one is just loosened so bracket can be moved out of the way). Lift door off the bottom pin. Turn the door on its side to expose the bottom bracket. There should be 2 bolts here. The furthest one from the pin only needs to be loosened. The other bolt will need to be removed but as you do this be sure to not let the other 2 metal pieces fall out. Remove the broken cam and replace with the new part. Realign the parts and bracket over the pin rod hole and tighten both bolts. Replace the door onto the bottom pin. Then add top bracket and align it to the marking and screw back in these 2 bolts. Test door for any needed adjustments (I had none). Then replace the top bracket cover with its screw. Voila! Clean the shelves and put them in the door and fill them up. :-)
