This is a side-by-side unit. After blocking up the closed refrigerator door to the correct height to match the freezer door, I removed the lower hinge pin assembly by taking out two bolts. Save the shims (my had two) for the new hinge pin. Then remove the cam riser from the bottom of the door by taking out two bolts. Install the new cam

Several months ago I had to replace the hinge and cam on the refrigerator door and the repair went smoothly as pictured in the video. This time I had to replace the cam on the freezer door so I ordered the hinge assembly, which included the cam. The web site confirmed that, according to the model number of my 27 year old refrigerator, th

e hinge assembly would fit. The problem I had was that the top hole in the hinge was positioned too high to fit the hole in the refrigerator so I had to put the old hinge back on, even though it showed some wear. The door closes smoothly by itself now.

am lined up with axis of hinge reinsert screw, place door back on hinge and replace hinge on top. the freezer side has water an ice in the door.at the bottom [grill has been removed] of the door a plastic tubing has to be disconnected [make sure water is off] the disconnect is near the door, the coupling is only finger tight. uncou[ple plastic coupling and pull out of connection, pull the nut and ferule off the tubing. now take top hinge off, remove door straight up while feeding plastic tubing thru hinge. the hinge is replaced the same way as the other side. when new hinge an cam are in place, lift door up now feed the plastic tubing thru the hinge till door is in place, replace top hinge. when you reconnect the plastic tubing it helps if you place a lubricant on the end so that you slide the nut and ferule on. the connection should only be finger tight, no wrenches

I watched the "How To" video on the Parts Select web site twice. The video was very helpful, kind of like having someone right there with you showing you how to replace the hinge. I emptyed the door shelves, removed the top hinge hexscrews and easily lifted the door off the lower hinge, pieces of the broken cam hinge on the door fell off.

I set the door on the floor in front of the sink with the handle edge on the floor. I unbolted the hinge and installed the new one. I loosened one screw on the door cam hinge and removed the other, easily replacing the broken part. Before tightening the screws I checked to make sure the hinge hole in the door was not blocked by the new cam hinge. I lifted the door and water ran out from somewhere. I tried to set the door on the lower hinge several times with no luck. I rechecked the hole, it was still clear. I tried placing the door on the refrigerator using the seal to hold it in place, that worked but I couldn't get the door to drop down onto the hinge. I played with it some more and finally got it in place, reinstalled the top hinge, mopped up the water and tried the door. It didn't self close. I adjusted the top hinge a couple of times and applied a little silicone to the hinges, it still didn't self close. I told my wife to make sure the door closes completely and reloaded the stuff into door. After a couple of days it now closes by itself like it's supposed to. In retrospect, I was alone doing the replacement and it really was an easy job but a second person to help line up the lower hinge would have helped a lot.

I replaced both bottom hinges on my GE refrigerator. The hint that they were worn out was that both the freezer door and fresh food door would not close completely. You had to lift the door on the hinge to get it to close. Many of the GE service repair people recommend complete removal of each door to replace the bottom hinge. I found I c

ould use a couple of wood blocks tall enough to take the weight of the door, jacking it up off of the hinge so could loosen the hex head screws. The freezer door hinge took a few minutes longer because the water supply line for the icemaker which is routed through the tube in the hinge. Overall, an easy repair and the cost of two repair visits was saved.
