First removed plastic cover off top hinge with phillips screwdriver. Used nut driver to loosened screws on upper hinge to 1/2 inch out and then used wood blocks to shim up door as high as possible while still in closed position. The refrigerator door would now close and notice broken plastic on the floor. It is a 1990 or so GE fridge. To repair - ordered the Cam Riser (the plastic piece that broke and the matching lower door bracket.

Easy job .. around 20 minutes.

I could see a broken part but couldn't tell exactly how it was oriented on the hinge. I bought just the cam riser but then thought I needed the hinge kit based on what I read on this site. Then I saw better pictures of the hinge kit on another site & realized there are 2 cam risers that meet. The one riveted to the hinge was fine (in m ... Read more y case) - I only needed the upper one...a very inexpensive repair. Do NOT remove the door for this repair. Slide the door up a bit while closed and use a pint-sized paint can to prop it up. Make the repair and remove the can...done.

After reading other posted comments,I ordered a new hinge assembly set ps290199. My helper and I removed the door and laid it on the kitchen table. While he replaced the hinge on the refigator,I replaced the cam on the door bottom. We re-hung the door and completed the job in 15 minutes with the door closing like it did when new.

Same as the others, just propped the door up and took off the upper and lower hinge parts and replaced them. One note: the old hinge was so torn up that some of the shims were partially destroyed. Since I didn't order the shims, I had to do a little machining. It might be a good idea to order shims if there is ant doubt.

Removed trim cap at top of door. Removed two hex head screws and lifted top hinge off door. Lifted door off lower hinge. Unscrewed broken cam riser from bottom of door and replaced with new part which was then screwed into place. Easy peasy. :-)

Laid a 3 1/2" block of wood about a foot long under door, pried up door level with other door and used a couple of wedges to hold door up. Used 1/4" sockets and ratchet to remove and reinstall hinge.

First issue, I tried to get the top hinge cover off by gently prying. No go. Went to get a step stool and discovered a small screw holding the plastic cover on. At least I didn't break it by prying. I then removed the two top hinge bolts and removed top hinge. I then lifted the door off the bottom hinge.

I then removed the broken lift cam from the bottom of the door, replacing it with the door closing cam included in the hinge assembly package.

Second issue: I did not need to order the DOOR closing cam as a separte item as it came with the hinge assembly package. (There was a warning note in the hinge assembly package to use the door cam included, as new materials had been used and abnormal wear could occure if you didn't replace both pieces of the lift cam)

I set the door back on the bottom hinge, replaced the top hinge and tested. The door would NOT close on it's own. Getting down on my belly I could see resistance of the door light switch was keeping the door from closing. The fix of this issue was to load the door with the normal use items. This provided enough weight to the door and offset the resistance of the switch. EVERY THING WORKED GREAT. Time was 26 minutes from start to finish.

Lifted the door while closed into position even with freezer door. Then put srap pieces of wood under door to hold into place while I removed the old hinge assembly and replaced with the new one. The door works good now. Make sure you replace both peices as they will both be worn.

First I bought the right tool to remove the hinges.
Then replaced the hinge with the two cams.
Now the door closes itself.

Just remove all items in door shelves, remove screw holding top hinge cover on. Remove two bolts holding top hinge and remove hinge from door. Carefully open door and lift out of bottom hinge. Use several wood blocks and propped fridge dooe up and someone else steadied the door while I replaced the hinge. Pretty easy.

they sell the cam piece but the instructions says not to replace only one part. so beware you need both the cam and hinge as a kit .

Turned refrigerator off. Removed food from right hand (refig.) door. Closed door. Installed new lower hinge post and rubbed a small amount of mineral oil on the closing cam (which is riveted to the hinge-post). Removed the old upper closing cam from the door (5/16" bolts) while it as lying horizontal on the table and installed new cam lubricated with a small amount of mineral oil. dropped the door in place, replaced upper hinge and cover. Replaced kick pan. Done.

1. Unscrewed the top screws with a socket set 2. Took door off of refrigerator 3. Unscrewed hinge assembly 4. Put on new hinge assembly 5. Replaced door on refrigerator 6. Screwed top screws back in I watched a youtube video on how to replace it that was extremely helpful. I am not a handyman, so if I can do this, anyone can.
